Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi All. With my HW98 now shooting sweetly, I thought Id give my new permission a go. I have been walking a small section of the permission for a couple of weeks now, and have become familiar with it. While walking it, I have been looking for the obvious sign's of bunny activity. Also making sure my potential hot spots were safe and had ample backstop. Not had time yet to add markers about the place, but will spend a good time doing just that. Arrived at the permission and coasted the car into the gateway as quietly as I could, engine off. Got the rest of my kit on, locked the car,and loaded the rifle. ( Safety on ) Climbed over the gate, and eased my way along the side of the barn. Reached the corner of the barn and got down low to peep around the corner, spotted a pigeon about 25yds away sat on the gutter of the barn opposite. Only trouble was.......he saw me too and there was me thinking I was doing so well. A few of his mates went with him, and I cursed as they flew into the distance. Oh well.....onwards, got to a nice little corner, and edged my way into a gateway on my belly, beneath a tree. crawling forward I peered around the corner and there to my joy were three bunnies sat out from the hedge. Only trouble was, they were about 40/45yds away, didnt want to risk wounding, so waited. While waiting, I heard a noise in the tree above me, and slowly backed away from the corner to look up. At first couldnt see what it was, thought it was a pigeon, but a squirrel gave away its position by moving to another branch. I was there trying to get a bead for a good 15 minutes, then eventialy I took the shot. Poor old squizzer sort of hung on with his back feet, then dropped into a thicket of brambles, I couldnt get near the sod. But was sure of his demise, so was well happy.....first ever Squirrel Of course with all the noise, the bunnies I was so patiently waiting for had legged it. So.......for my first time out in earnest, Im a happy chappy Bill. Quote Link to post
reggaeman 1
its always nice to nail a squizzer fella cos they are so hard me personally would've taken the shot at 40-45 yards Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Thats a really good write up Sweeney friend. Its nice to read write ups where the author is honest about his shooting caperbilities and not shy to tell other hunters. The HW98 is a nice piece of hardware friend so im sure with some more practice you will be hitting them 40 - 45 yard bunnies soon 2 mil dots on my scope would of also knocked that bunnies head off if it was at 45 yards around 41 metres but like you said friend you were not fully confident so you did the right thing and waited Ive got to aggree with Gary, ive shot with Reggaeman on a number of occassions now and he is more than caperble of nailing a 40 metre bunny, in fact bunnies out to 50 metres would be in grave danger if that Ultra is pointing 2 inches above their heads with Reggaeman on the trigger Best of luck for the future and please keep your posts coming Zini Quote Link to post
Marksman 934
GReat write up mate, and as Zini etc have said, well done on the fact you waited instead of taking the shot..... Good luck for future efforts mate Darryl Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi Zinni. Im pleased you enjoyed the write up, and thank you for your kind comments. As you say, with more practice it will come....Im in no rush, and enjoy a relaxed attitude towards my shooting. Trying to hard puts the pressure on, and failier leads to frustration. To be honest Im not shooting fit either, breathing, and gun hold need some work. Need to get a bit fitter Every day is a good day Cheers me dear. Bill. Quote Link to post
