Coatesy900 0
Went out for a quick session with afternoon with my big hob. Got to a nearby bit of permission around half twelve, and found the grass still a little too long for comfort and had a little bit of trouble finding a few of the holes, to the expense of my bag. First ran the ferret through a little 5 holer but nothing was home. Moved into the next feild and tried a 3 holer right in the middle. Both these warrens have never produced a single rabbit, but i like to try them first everytime I go there just because they're small and easy to net. Its always going to be the time I dont bother that there will be something home Next tried a 9 holer in the same feild and within 30 seconds a rabbit had hit the net. As the holes were spread along a banking in a line, and I was at the far end at the time, I wasnt close enough to get there in time and it had kicked the net off and was off into a hedge. Upon closer inspection I found the net it had hit had torn across two of the links. I must not have dried them out last time I was out and they were weak as sh*t. I thought I'd try one more warren as the weather was starting to move in. I put a few nets down over a more compact 6 holer with the holes closer together. After a few minutes there was a load of thumping and a rabbit shot out of a bolt hole I had missed. I was pretty pissed at this and actually tried to throw my priest at it as it ran away! Im glad there was nobody around because it was quite a spectacle! Needless to say, I missed... Ferret didnt surface after the first rabbit bolted so I quickly layed another net over the missed hole. Spent another five or ten minutes waiting and then the biggest buck I've ever seen flew out of a hole and hit a net. I made even more of a fool of myself frantically diving on it and then finally had one in the bag. Lifted the nets and ferret then hurried home to beat the rain. No luck mate but at least I got an "out loud" laugh there, pure frustration no doubt, hope you weren't swearing...... Suppose the big buck soothed the mood a bit though, nice one! Some new nets on order then is it? Rigboot Quote Link to post
