JoeD 24
Went ferreting today with a new face, watchman off of here. He is a top bloke and good laugh. Anyway we met at 7am and went on to crack at this "over run garden" which was supposed to be filled with rabbits, anyway there was a warren under the shed and we netted it up and we had 1 rabbit that didn't hit any nets and just ran off never to be seen again. And that was that for that small warren after running the ferrets through it 4 or 5 times with nothing coming out or no noise what so ever. We looked at the other warren under a barn and well we decided it's nto worth doing. So we moved onto another bit of permission, we netted up the main warren with nothing and the ferrets just surfacing so we lifted the nets and moved onto a smaller warren where I had 2 last week but again nothing. So we gave up with the area and went for a 20 min drive to a normally nice bit of permission and usually catch atleast 1. We netted up a hedgerow and within a minute a rabbit had a ferret latched onto it's ass, the ferret killed it underground before we could get to it so we started digging and I sort of snapped the spade, which I don't think I will ever live down with watchman, but anyway we dug to it with half a spade and a blunt axe and when he stuck his hand down pulled out a nicely rotten rabbit skin that absolutely stank. But he got the rabbit aswell. I think he was impressed with my good workers who kill it and surface straight after, they never stay with a kill (or haven't yet) So after that we started netting up on a new bit of hedgerow and half way through netting up realised the wasp nest I stabbed a month or so back while setting a net was still there so we quickly lifted the nets and went to see if there was any other warrens about, there was one that I bolted a rabbit from last week but we decided not to run the ferrets through as the holes where not very well used and a lot of leaves and stuff in the way. So we called it a day and got hom for about 10.30 with 1 rabbit in the bag. It was a good morning in good company and I would be more than happy to take him out on some of my other permissions. Sorry I didn't take any pictures. JoeD Quote Link to post

JoeD 24
Just got a phonecall from the 1st land owner who wanted to know how many we got, I told him the truth and he said he doesn't want us back, he didn't sound happy but in all honesty it is a crap bit of permission, and we done our best and if he can't see that then stuff him. I also don't really like putting ferrets under foundations as there could be loose stones or sharp objects in the warren, so I only do buildings if I have been asked personally.
