2 hobs

Recommended Posts

Hi, I got my first pair of ferrets yesterday (2 hobs) both are 4 months old and brothers. Do they have to be castrated or vasectomised for them to be able to live together happily. I intend to work them so would getting them done effect that. All help much appreciated. Aaron.

They can live together most of the year with no problems, but you may find they fight when they come into season, around about may-august.

If you get them castrated they should be fine all year, and as far as i know, it wont affect their working potential

Thanks alot :)

Also, one of them is making a funny noise, it's like a cross between a wheeze and a cough, is it something tonworry about or is it a natural noise. Aaron.

It doesn't sound good if he is making a kind of wheezing noise, i've never had any of mine make it, although i did have one that used to sneeze all the time, but never seemed ill in any other way, maybe better off getting a check at the vets.

A change of bedding will make them sniff a bit.

if u say they wernt looked after properly in there last home then he could of picked up an invection in his lungs cause of being in a damp pisshy cage but nie u have him in a dry cage wi nice clean bedding you should start 2 see an improvement in him in a couple of days pal all the best wif him

not all the time, just short bursts every now and then. I thought it may be when he's annoyed as he mainly does it when squabbling over food or when I handle him (not been handled much by last owner).

Ahh, probably no problem then, i thought you meant he did it all the time, it sounds like an aggression thing, i have one of my jills makes a kind of almost growling noise when she is ragging a rabbit.

Just keep an eye on him, but he sounds fine to me.
