Axholme Ferreter 0
Saw a clip of video recently with someone shooting rats at night using what looked like a 410 fitted with a torch and a laser. Seemed to be quite successful. Has anyone tried this? any ideas how to fix the lamp and laser other that tape. I quite fancy the idea of pimping my moderated 410 but not sure how to do it. Elmerfudd 5
Well, thought I'd respond to this one. I have a Bretton Gaucher .410 moderated. Last winter I fitted it with a red filtered Clubman CB2 lamp clamped onto the barrel. The clamp is designed to fit on a 30mm scope, but with a little patience and abrasive paper, I got a good fit on the moderated barrel. On one side of the clamp I filed a rudimentary dovetail and then fitted a Hawke laser sight. I have it zeroed at about 10yds and it's fantastic against rats around the chicken sheds with 2" shells. I have tried it for rabbits with limited success, but nothing really beats a 12g pump for that. I did try fitting the lamp/laser to that, but it was far too cumbersome. Hope that helps Quote Link to post
heritage 202
the method that was shown works superbly on rats , the set-up can be achived using more modern equivalents available from the deben product range, the brkts generally being fitted under the barrel, it can require a little chopping and changing of mounting brkts but its well worth the effort in my opinion, pm sent. all the best Quote Link to post
Axholme Ferreter 0
Thanks for the replies, I wondered if there was any mountings on the market for this that I had missed but it looks as if I had better get the bits box out and start filing!! All the best AF Quote Link to post
Axholme Ferreter 0
Sorry to labour the point but has anyone got any ideas for a simple mount? The shrouded barrel of my moderated 410 is about 40mm diameter so any light, laser etc would have to be mounted on there. Thought of fixing a weaver rail on to the top and bottom of the barrel but how? Jubilee clips are a bit crude, would tie wraps hold tight enough? Could the moderator shroud be drilled and tapped to screw them on or would this be dangerous to interfere with the moderator? All the best AF Quote Link to post
stubby 175
why not try a plumbers merchants/B&Q as 40mm is the size of waste piping, maybe do clips of some sort that you could bodge Quote Link to post
chimp 299
most lasers come with the correct barrel fitting kit. Quote Link to post
Axholme Ferreter 0
Ah, nice idea Stubby, will look at that. I have got several different barrel mounts for Lasers, torches etc but they are all far to small for the 40mm moderated barrel on my gun but thanks for the contribution. All the best AF I have the hushpower pedretti, so know what your up against, I reckon a 40mm pipe bracket will slip right over that, a small piece of wood bolted across will secure it to the barrel/mod, then fix the laser/torch bracket to the wood, give it a spray of black paint when finished, no one would be any the wiser, Quote Link to post
