Day Two.

Recommended Posts

Had our second day out today, went less mob handed than last week, me and the old chap, the three runners (the 2 young black dogs, and the old blue dog) and four ferrets (2 jills 2 hobs).

Got up there at dawn, old chap had a brew whilst I collared up and got the gear ready, and we started.

Gave the old blue dog Toddy first crack, he did well for a 10 yr old, snatched a few from runs and marked a couple, thats him steadied up and put him back in the truck.

Out with the speed freak black dogs now Robby and Jed (My old man comes up with some crap names!), they were alternated most of the morning, one off to work, whilst the other was put on the lead (this is really funny when bolting rabbits as the dogs pull the old feller over all the time, i'll film it one day!)

They are good dogs, but not aces like there father 'Roy' (another great name!). They work well together, covering the ground in no time, but when run on there own they seem to stall a little, not working the land out thoroughly.

They still nailed almost everything they put up and come across, but it takes them a long time to work the land out compared to some. Still the most promising animals we've had for a lot of years though.

One thing I am pleased with though is the ferrets, two of last years jills are showing in there second season the makings of the sort of jills i've not had in a lot of years, they stick with the job untill everything is out, or dead.

Also the two smallish albino hobs from 2007 on there first day out today starting their third season were on the job from the first warren and hammered anything, not flinching in the slightest at the kicking they were getting, once again not coming away unless everything is out or dead.

Had quite a few digs for my trouble, (around 20) but nothing silly.

Steady sport all day, still quite a few mixi round, and not lots of rabbits in the warrens so never set a net all day, the dogs covered that aspect.

Ended the day on 63 rabbits around 4 pm, a good days work, and the animals had had enough.
