billy_wizz 2
Can anyone tell me if it is to late in the year to have one done ready for next year? Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Why would it be too late? For working in the near future? Quote Link to post
Guest lavyheed
Its not too late in the year to have your hob vasectomised. My vet recomends that you don't use the hob on the jill until 21 days after the operation. Having him done now with give him plenty of rest until the jills come into season. How old is he? billy_wizz 2
I was led to beleive there testicles retract back into there body over winter and if thats so it might add extra complications to the operation making it impractical! Quote Link to post
billy_wizz 2
He's somewhere between 18 months and 2 years I'd need to look it up to be more precise i'm crap with dates! Quote Link to post
Guest lavyheed
Your nuts would retract if you were kept outside too Speak with your vet mate, he will know best, i've had ferrets vasectomised in the colder months and had no complications with them. Quote Link to post

He's well over the 6 months old mark then. Just make sure you tell the vets receptionist that it is a vasectomy he's getting done and not a castration. It's not the first time i've had the receptionist phoning before the procedure to check Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Mine would retract if I thought they were going to be disconnected! The vet probs can get a clear shot when theyre out, i'm no vet but i'm sure that one worth his salt could sort it at any time of year. Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Great time to get him done , gives plenty of time to make sure he is firing blanks before he gets randy next year Quote Link to post

The one 8,479
Its a lot easier if there desended and if they are now would be a good time to get it done and let him recover before you want to use him Quote Link to post
thegoosemany 0
recovery time is pretty quick mate Edited October 17, 2009 by thegoosemany Quote Link to post
billy_wizz 2
This is the first year i'v had to borrow a friends but they seam to keep in better condition if left in with the hob not having to wait a week or so for him to get it back from another friend! Plus i've noticed that if they live together year round they tend to rag the jills round less and just do the job as they come in to season! Quote Link to post
