from what i know of it i think its because your dog takes the most charateristics of the dam and as unfit says people use the greyhound for just the speed perposes. an alsation has stamina, intelligance, bottle and not like collie bottle when the going gets tough the alsation doesnt pull out, the only thing the greyhound can offer is speed.

good greyhound can offer more than speed you twat some will die for the kill and some run clever , fech me what does a run of the mill family pet alsaition offer a busy huinting man , ive saw goos alsaition crosses s bartons dogs many years ago but the greyhound has more than speed mate trained a few for lamoping and foxing they were good dogs to

whin ,if grey hounds were that good ,we would not be using them just for crossing we would all be running them ,so it just goes to show they are not ,they only put speed into a dog ,you have seen a lot according to you ,i sujest you take more notice in the future .and we dont use run of the mill pets to x with .

mate saw lots of things i my life but i have saw very good greyhounds feildgreyhounds over in new mexico saw ex coursing bitches catch 2 out of three winter hares , had several over the years some were no good feet wise but some were decent ,now i no they are not the full ticket but they are not just there to give pace , some have very good mouths and throw there mouth to there young mate ,some clever on the chase when they are game wise, never run a good greyhound as just a meal ticket for pace , had one straight of the feild saw her first fox good nite for mr foxy so they aint just pace dogs even tho they are the fastest dogs in the world bud , but ye they are fast and thtas how the feet f**k up and yes they are bred for pace but some have good stamina i had one thta done 1200 yrds a pup of her and she through stamina as well , a gereyhound throws more than your average alsaition collie etc cause they are alot of them feche dup with show breed mate

who said we go for the average joe pet alsation, not being funny mate but its the same with every breeding you pick the very best of the breed and mate with that, which has been tried and tested for its attributes. you pick the very best from working stock. so your saying a greyhound can lamp all night. a greyhound will stick it when the going gets tough, a greyhound brings intelligace to the field, has a solid bone make up so if it falls it can get back up. a greyhound has bottle dont think so any dog can run a couple of hares big deal were talking about maybe a good 3 hours day work or maybe 4 hours + lamping yeah mate a greyhound really adds all the above attributes, dont think so, hence why i said all a greyhound is good for is speed. if greyhounds are so good why is it we all dont use them

you dont think greyhounds have bottle?the right type have plenty.i've owned one and seen others thats will tackle anything without hesitation.

they're not without there flaws but brought up as a lurcher they can make useful if somewhat injury prone hunters.

yeah greyhounds will show some signs of bottle maybe for the first season but once they get hurt they pull off what ever they were coursing or be half hearted in the course. i mean true bottle like if they get hurt they still go back. like if you were foxing<pre ban> a greyhound might last one season then next season they wont catch them again. i prefere a dog that once entered it will remain doing it for the duration of there life. i have never known personally a greyhound that can hack the stresses of hunting season after season. mate im a greyhound lover my self i think there great just cant hack the work which is a shame

they are not bred to work nowadays in the uk but over but in the southern states of new mexico texas rthey have feild greyhounds cunninhams and they do work course and kill coyotes ,now over here its all speed ,but thats not the greyhounds fault thats the breeding like your pet alsaitions lab collies ,ive saw good shaefer hunds in germany very good ones, no hip problems more collie like prick ears and good heigh backs , ye alsaition is a good alround dog but alas you need to search for them , as i sated before i saw to very good alsaition crosss bartons rooney musket , at the 199192 field trails , and down in abergaveny i run against them , good dogs, ps had agreyhound bitch for two seasons working killed all that was asked even a daylite hare roe fox very good bitch no feet problems , i gave her to a guy who breeds pionters , made good pups he says thats some greyhound , i have saw 4 diffrent strains been out lamping hunting with them my old mate had them he died a young man saw other guys down filey way , and bartons dogs so i no what they are , they were all handy dogs ,first alsaition cross i saw was a devil; on fox and roe and produced his self , over his pups

A mal might be a better x to a grey. Smaller maybe better hips, and if from good line [good pre-drive]. Its like any x =bulls,collie,deerhound,.........., get the right working line plus a good greyhound and you in with a fighting chance.

hi i'm thinking of buying a first x alsation x greyhound as one of my mates has one and it kills everything its allowed. i've seen alot of breeds run but nothing i've found so far can match its endurance and power. what are peoples views on the breed and can any body advise. if any one has got any pics of the breed they could post that would be great.

cheers all

I would go for a Malinous X and a racy type Mali aswell, much better on there feet than a bounding, rubber backed GSD.
