stormyboy 1,352
A 3 month old pup cousing and chasing rabbits ??????? never heard so much rubish in my life,, its a good way to make a yapper if ever there was one, a dog will never come to terms with its quarry at this age,, miss loads get dishearterned start yapping, or just refuse to run stuff near cover. The dog will also huntup, not good when you come to enter it to the lamp. UNFIT you are really talking silly mate, only to people like your self that has never tried or seen it . ,a lot has seen that it does happen and how good the results are ,that is all i can say ,and a lot of the witnesses are on this site ,and take it from me ,they are doing it them selves with there pups .like i keep saying the pups are taken out with older dogs and just left to do what they want ,.its as simple as that . The thread has gone from 3 month old dogs coursing rabbits-to taking them out to watch older dogs! Nothing new or mystical there! Quote Link to post

No problem in letting them have a look, but i wouldn't let them chase. Look at the wild dog-or any other predator. They do not accompany parents too young because of the risk of injury, not to mention the fact that they could f**k up a hunt-a hunt that means survival of the pack.IMO the domestic dog is no different. This is not just written in books, this behavior has enabled these predators to survive for 1000's of years. Quote Link to post

weasle 1,119
I made my mind up a long time ago.You seem to think your the only one on here with more than afew seasons experience, your not and i doubt any one with a bit of knowledge will change the way they do things because of your writings, but there are a lot of newcomers who will think its ok to take there 3 month old pups hunting, not that i care, but i hate to see young dogs ruined. As would any dogman or women.
