what would be the best set up

im looking for something quiet,

already have a cz american 17 hmr which is an

great rifle but need something a bit quieter

Well i don't have masses of experience with different rifles (i generally buy one and shoot it until it lets me down then go and buy another) but i shoot a BRNO carbine with moderator (bolt action) couple that with cci subsonic hollow point and it is deathly quiet (quieter in fact than my air arms s410 pcp) or for a bit more poke (close range foxes) i use eley wasp high velocity that just give a crack when they go but is only a similar noise level to that of an old spring air rifle such as a weihrauch hw80 or something similar.

eley don't make wasp in rimfire ammo do they ;)

I do apologise dear chap, they are remington yellow jacket hollow point that i have been using (theres a picture of a wasp on the box).

I used to use the Rem Yellow Jacket HP in my Silhouette, found them to be one of the best High Velocity rounds in the gun! (my .22lr is strictly a Sub Sonic tool these days)

Anyway, back to the topic....

If you like the CZ in HMR then just get a CZ .22lr, almost any of them, stick a mod (SAK) on the front and use Subs, job done, no need to use ANY HV ammo through the .22lr, just use the HMR if you want a bit more clout!

if you want silence then use subs. imo 22 hv rounds are no where nr as accurate. and the noise they make you mite as well shoot hmr. and have much better accuracy

Any sportsman must use what he feels comfortable with. I personally like the hv rounds in my .22. Accuracy never seems to be an issue, i don't make my self out to be any type of crack shot but i can group 5 rounds one after the other into the bottom of a red bull can at around 100 yards and i haven't had a charlie run far yet once i put the cross hairs on him. Ofcourse one must take into consideration the limitations of a .22.

yes your right but has he said he wants it as silent as poss. so hv rounds are still abit noisy. subs are best for his needs
