Two birds with one V-max

Recommended Posts

I had an hour or so out with my mate John this evening for greycrow fodder, read hapless bunnies who crossed our paths. He'd the .22lr and I brought the .223, just because... :ninja:

On our way to bunny land we see five greycrows on a power line. He jokes about lining three of them up with the .223, no backstop, no thanks ;) But it set a trend :boxing:

Then he spots one greycrow walking about in the field under the power line, that's more temptation than I can resist.

One of the greycrows on the power line flies down to join his mate in the field. "I bet you can't get them both with one shot", he jests.

By freak accident, crow 1 has stood stock still, while crow 2 has done a neat U turn and stopped, almost touching, behind him.

I had already ranged crow 1 at 160 yards. A gentle squeeze of the Jewell sent a 40 grain V-max to do the deed. POP! A large cloud of light grey feathers erupts from where two crows used to stand. Neither rose.

Knocked the talk off my mate

Off we went, John shoots three nice sized bunnies, dead calm here today and a lovely evening for shooting.

Laying down on a hillock I spy two bunnies, sat out on a dune. Leica says 285 yards... John looks at me, "Oh yes, I am", I say.

I settle down real well, nice and comfy. There's no wind to account for so I compensate for the bullet drop on my reticle.

Squeeze ~ BOOM! ~ POP!

:victory:

That'll do me.

Good shooting again John.

What are you zeroed at for your 223 and can you remember the extra drop out to the bunnie @285y??

Zeroed for 200 yards Clive, can't remember the drop in numbers but I know where to aim between marks on the NF reticle
