Shovel, i can't see any reason or benefit for this "festival".

Most people are going to be hunting, the greens have gotten an agreement to ban stag hunting during this term of government and the boys are going to eat cake and have a festival,WTF is that all about?

I'm a member of the HAI but i don't agree with this at all.

I agree with u Bryan not sure what benefit this festival has after the greens latest agreement. i feel this is a bad time of year to hold a festival as most people would prefer alot to be hunting.if this festival was held during the summer months i think it would have alot better attendance and this would have shown the greens and fianna fail how much support the Ward Union had from everyone in the hunting fraternity. It might have made fianna fail think twice in agreeing with the greens daft agenda. The festival is on sat and sunday with all the main hound shows on sunday. i myself will try get the terriers out on saturday and will head up on sunday to meet a few mates and see the hounds. atb Bryan, shovel

Not saying your right or wrong Bryan but if Gormless bans the Ward Unions who's next? Coursing? Beagling?

Most packs aren't starting 'till next week or the week after and IMO a big show of support at this festival might just help to show how important Fieldsport are to the Irish economy/people. Not that the Greens give a shit.

Some of the events being held are hunting orientated too, the hound trail for example. (Incidently, a good friend of mine won a hound trail in Punchestown around 40 years ago.)

There's rumours that Gormless and the Greens are going to blackmail the Irish Govt. next year by bringing them down if they don't agree to a ban on Stag hunting and hare coursing. And those spineless arseholes in F.F. will probably agree. Remember what Haughy (a hunting man) banned in 1992.

Wont be there myself but I hope it's a success and I think it's great that the HAI is getting the ball rolling and also that they're embracing the terrier and lurcher folk.

I don't think in England that the hounds people sold out the terrier and lurcher fraternity but over here I believe they would yes.

Thats why I think at the likes of Punchestown the terrier and lurcher owners should support all fieldsports with their presence and cash and behave in a respectable manner and prove to the likes of the H.A.I. and the C.A. that they can't be done without.

At the end of the day I don't think it will be other organisations that will do away with terrier work etc. IMO it's the cowboys who own terriers and lurchers that will get it stopped. JMHO.

I was talking to an ex-Master last night and she tells me Punchestown was badly organised and badly set up on the Saturday.

Maybe it's just teething problems.

I went in the end, not expecting much and was pleasantly supprised. To me the hound trailing was new and I enjoyed it very much. Nothing like hunting but I can see the attraction in it.

Poor show of terriers and lurchers but that's completely understandable in the middle of October. Some nice harriers and fell hounds being walked around which in my part of the country we don't see to often.

I managed to pick up a 114 year old book on foxhunting from the Badmington Library for 50 euro.

There was good support and fundraising done for hunting.

One thing that bothered me was that as I live in the middle of Ward Union country I met several of their members that I know. A lot of them felt that this will be the last season for that hunt and I hope their wrong.

Remember folks, that if that bollocks Gormless gets his way the banning of stag hunting will be the start of the slippery slope. It seems that this current government has been around a long time but in truth they've another couple of years to go and they could do a lot of damage in that time.

Today the Ward Union are under pressure in time it could be every other fieldsports.

Get ready for the battle.

I was at Punchestown myself on sunday. Was abit disappointed that they ran the terrier show and the hound shows at the same time and therefore people didn get a chance to see each class for hounds and terriers. Hopefully they will sort this for next year and maybe hold the show earlier in the year.
