marky r 25 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Share Posted October 14, 2009 (edited) hi iv been visiting this part of the forum for a while and been wanting to get into stalking for about a year now but trouble is i dont know how or should i say the best way iv got the time to do it (get 3 days off work a week including sunday) im 21 and had a shotgun licence since i was about 16 and now want to move on and get a fac for foxes and deer. question is would i have to start off with getting a .22? iv been told i need experience before even thinking bout applying for my fac is this true? what qualifies as experience? and how much experience do i need? would doing my dsc1 and 2 be enough? obviously i need to be shown how buy an experienced stalker but im not made of money so carnt pay the prices the quides charges for stalking days. any advice would be great and i want to get going soon as i can really. The man that to ask for help is remmy Prior you will see him on the deer stalking page hes the man that wee all look up to when it comes to stalking in this part of the manner the experince that man has on the roe deer and high seat making is not worth nowing HE IS THE MAN AND SO SAY ALL OF US Quote Link to post

Dan Newcombe 58 Posted November 3, 2009 Report Share Posted November 3, 2009 If i was you i would aplpy for a .22 r/f for rabbits etc .22 centre fire for foxes, legal deer etc a bigger deer calibre such as a .308, .270 If you do this and show that you have ground to use them (someone to show you the ropes always helps) then you might get lucky and get them all if you argue right OR The police man may say you cant have a big rifle (because for some reason they thing they are significantly more dangerous) but you can have a .243 (or similar). If this happens you can just ask for fox all the time (not just stalking) on that rifle and you are laughing ebcause it plenty for deer and also a red hot fox round. When i applied i asked for a 6.5x55 and a 30-06. They said no to the 30-06 in west mercia but then i moved forces to north wales and thought i might as well try and they had no problem.
