diggory 130
why do people always moan about shows ? for some it becomes an obsession and for what ? f**k all, a rossette, maybe even a trophy if your lucky, personally i think there all a load of bollocks and imo 90% of the dogs in them have never seen a days graft in there life, even the owners make me laugh with the full real tree outfit and fell boots in the middle of summer.maybe the judges are biased but if i was a judge i would only pick what i would keep in my own kennels, i know it's hard to guess if a dog works or not just from looks but most of the people at these shows could'nt possibly work the amount of dogs (or should i say clones) they have with them. another thing i've noticed about these so called working dog shows is that most judges won't pick dogs that are marked up. to me work always comes first looks don't even come into it, but thats not the case with a lot of people and thats why theres so much shit about nowadays here here coudnt agree more
whippetlady 0
As you will no doubt have observed, several dogs backed off or were difficult with the judge on Sunday, for no apparent reason. I cant answer for the judge and wouldn't presume to, second chances, and sometimes third chances, are often given on the day to some dogs. This is common practice at most shows and rightfully so. As far as members classes go, are you suggesting I should only show in these because of past judging jobs, if so I might as well join a knitting circle for the summer months instead of having what should be a nice day out with friends and like minded people, without the sniping, wingeing and back stabbing that has become all too prevalent up and down the country this year. If you cant live with the judges decisions, dont go. Remember it is supposed to be a fun day out. Yes it IS supposed to be a fun day out, but where is the fun when , as whippetlady and many others see what they perceive as blatant favouratism ? Regarding dogs backing off or being difficult with this particular judge, I commented to people around me that this is exactly what would happen as he appeared to be far to fussy with the dogs, this was a Lurcher show, not Crufts !!! Perhaps this was to cover up for what appeared to be favouratism ?? I, perssonaly would not enter my dogs in a show with this judge again. Cheers. cheers mate for your support in this.i wish everyone else who had mentioned it on the day ,would come forward too. why do people always moan about shows ? for some it becomes an obsession and for what ? f**k all, a rossette, maybe even a trophy if your lucky, personally i think there all a load of bollocks and imo 90% of the dogs in them have never seen a days graft in there life, even the owners make me laugh with the full real tree outfit and fell boots in the middle of summer. maybe the judges are biased but if i was a judge i would only pick what i would keep in my own kennels, i know it's hard to guess if a dog works or not just from looks but most of the people at these shows could'nt possibly work the amount of dogs (or should i say clones) they have with them. another thing i've noticed about these so called working dog shows is that most judges won't pick dogs that are marked up. to me work always comes first looks don't even come into it, but thats not the case with a lot of people and thats why theres so much shit about nowadays here here coudnt agree more me too
chartpolski 23,956
Jeff, in reply to your P.M., I haven't a clue who Chris is, we are at cross purposes. My only observation is that I dissagree with the judge, as do many people who were at the show do. I felt he didn't give MY dog a fair crack of the whip. That other people appear to be disgrunteled with the judge only strengthens my oppinion, which I stand by, as I said to you, I've been around dogs long enough to know when there are better dogs than mine, but also to know when I am not happy with a judge. Cheers.

JEFF Hi Jeff, these are only my own observations, and are no way meant to be pesonal to anyone except the judge. Things WERE said on the day; a committee member asked me on the saturday if I would come to the lurcher show on the sunday, which of course I did, meaning two round trips, (I should have sleapt overnight in the country tent like the leather lads did !!) The said comittee member asked me after my class what I thought and I said the judge was crap !!! Cheers.
freespirit 11
Hi, It seems to me that every one wants a piece of the judge, maybe you should give it a go yourself because when your in that ring your in a no win situation, at the end of the day you are only going to make two people happy , the champ and reserve, the rest will be baying for your blood. Remember its only a game you can't eat rossettes the real job starts out in the field. Happy hunting.

Remember its only a game you can't eat rossettes the real job starts out in the field. Happy hunting. the above is true so why do people make it hard for themselves i was'nt at the show but i know that if a dog has a bite at the judge it not only should'nt be put first but it should go home with nothing. and the owner should take time out to apologize to the judge. temprement is foremost in all working breeds . and if the dog in question was the best made in the class is neither here nor there it should not have been placed. this is a case of bad judgement without a doupt. but hey.at the end of the day the working season is here and now the dogs will be judged on what really counts working ability
The Ferret Tamer 1
This was printed on a show shedule:- "The Judges Decision may not be yours, but it is final" I think that says it all. FT
