There will never be a conclusion on this argument, i feed barf, but fed a good quality complete for years, without problem. I choose to feed Barf now, because i like the dogs to enjoy their meals and i can see the benefits to their health/condition. I think the bottom line is if your dog looks good on what your feeding then you must be doing something right. ;) Mally your whippet is the picture of a dog in peak condition, clearly she's not lacking anything in her diet!!

There's a guy that lives near me and keeps dobermans, he feeds them on those awful, sausage style dog meats, basically just minced crap and water . . . . . his dogs gleam with condition and vitality! Pisses me right off! :D

stunning dog mally :notworthy: a credit to ya,im not saying a dog cant look good eating complete stuff but ive got 1st hand experience of how this stuff is made and what goes in it and if you were offered it in its raw form you wouldnt feed it to your dog ;)

Tripe on it's own is no good to man or beast, there's not enough in it on it's own to sustain a pup. A good greyhound complete food with Raw meat (fed seperatly) i feed pups at 8 weeks 4 meals a day. 2 meals of soaked complete greyhound racer and 2 meals of raw meat (usually lamb or chicken) i don't feed tripe.

ur dogs in great condition mate so your advice is worth taking on board

I totally agree with you in principal mate, i have fed barf to my dogs (proper barf, bones, vedge etc etc) and i my dogs did very well on it. However due to circumstances i chose to go back to a complete diet and raw lamb and i found it to suit my dogs. However i did try a couple of other makes of complete before i found one that suited the dogs and one that kept them in condition even when there worked hard.

I've just got in from an hours lamping, only had 6 runs but she caught all 6. it's the whippets 4th night out in a week and we are out all day tomorrow ferreting. I know she wouldn't keep in condition if i didn't feed her the raw lamb too, with the work i'm giving her at the moment. She's also getting walked around 4 miles a day as i have her entered in thl lamping competition and i want her fit for her heat at the end of the month.

Theres always stories about what goes into complete feeds, bit like horror stories about pies, some may be true or maybe not it does't really matter. What matters is that completes give the needed nutrients in an easily digestable form. This means that the guess work is taken out of feeding, especially puppies, which is why most professionals use it as the basis of their feeding. Many add to the basic diet, I do myself, but it is still the basis and does a good job. If a dog as described above is putting in a lot of work then the extra calories in the lamb breast will be a welcome edition, the carbs in the complete will also be having a positive impact that wouldn't be as easy if just fed raw. It's all about balence and inclusion rather than blinkered dependency on fads and fashion.
