Lesflo2500 0
My lurcher is 3 months old I'm not sure when he can start on rats does anyone know? Quote Link to post
Busher100 740
Depends on the type of lurcher you got mate? I had a bull grey who got bit by one at 9 months and jacked and I have a greyhound that killed a big doe rat at 4 months so it depends on the individual dog mate (that bull grey didn't go on to do much tho I must admit) Quote Link to post

Personally I would thought it was to immature, socialising stock breaking and training would be better used, you can hunt rats in the summer when it’s older one serious rat bite now could put it off rats rest of its life. 4 Quote Link to post

Moocher71 4,049
I've kept and seen whippets that put some terriers to shame on rats, My old retired whippet x loved ratting and he would be in the thick of things with the terriers ,he would position himself and mop up the escapees,he just new were they was going to run to like he did with coneys. Yes you can have some great fun with a whippet or two. 1 Quote Link to post

Aussie Whip 4,101
When I first hunted rats with my 3/4 whippet she tried to retrieve them live to hand.I wasn't having any part of it and after a couple of bites on her, soon learned to kill them quick. She always throws up after the ratting's over.Has never made her hard mouthed on rabbits. Blackmag 6,095
The best I seen was a healer x Russell back in the late 80s he put some rats to bed one bite then move on a good decent brash dog to the lurchers as well but he did take a good number most trips got the owner some decent perm Quote Link to post
