beno 0
Moderator glare how do you stop it? I’ve tried a few things that are meant to stop it but its not working I’ve tried tape one of the bush wear mod covers but I’ am still getting glare. What do you guys use to stop it? My set up is a Tikka 243 with a S&B 8x56 on top with a Wildcat Pred8 at the end and a light force scope mounted striker Thanks Ben Quote Link to post

Guest vimto.
High magnification on the scope is the root cause. Owning a fixed mag like yourself your unable to turn it down so with the lamp dial adjuster wind the lamp up a little or as much as you dare to avoid the glare. Illuminate above the target area that's all you need.. Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
My PES is sprayed with a Matt black paint....I cant say I have ever noticed glare since. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
One standard issue black sports sock, chop in half. Two small elastic bands, place sock over moderator/barrel fit, secure with elastic bands. Not 100%, but works a charm. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
A common problem, all the above are likely to work/help...also mount the lamp further back if possible so the scope helps shield the moderator, or, if all else fails get a narrower mod or chop the barrel. I have a .243 T3 Hunter, the first in the country with the shorter pre cut barrel, I also run a P8 (compact) on the end of it and all is fine on mine, with no additional help! ATB Quote Link to post
Guest vimto.
Beno before you chop the barrel or exchange mods use the adjustment dial like i suggested and put the lamp mount to the furthest point forward on the scope I`m not having a dig deker just going from experience.. weejohn 3
The simplest, cheapest way to stop it is to put some insulating tape across the bottom portion of your scopes front lens. Alternatively you could also do as deker says and move the lamp mount as far back as you can and use the flip up style cover on the front lens, this works equally as well. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
I seem to remember Robert Bucknell putting some black insulating tape on the rear of the moderator which had been sprayed matt black, seemed to cure it. Seems there are quite a few solutions to pick from. Quote Link to post
hw100sniper 2
I had a similar problem on my cz style and silver sak mod ,got round it by buyong a camo sock works a treat now. Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
two things i can think of is cut out a old plant pot and put it over your lamp so it acts like shade. this will then cut out the glare from barrel. and give you a tighter beam. second thing is if your scope is mounted low to your barrel that isnt going to help. higher mounts mite stop the problem. if it was me the plant pot option is best Quote Link to post
Guest vimto.
Plant pot What happened to having a basic foxing rig with no dangly bits or unnecessary add ons?? It just so happened that due to the lack of space i couldn't fit the Lamp mount ring to the front of my old foxing outfit which just happened to have the shiniest moderator money could buy. The scope i was using at the time was a 6.5-20x50 MK4 tactical Luep which was used at all of the magnification setting without so much as an hint of glare. Why? well just look at the angle of the light housing its pointing well above the sight line and like i have already said previously illuminate the area above the target. I shot foxes from 20 yards to well over 250 with this set up with out the aid of plant pots, tape, spray paint, chopping the barrel or changing the mod.. Simply alter the round dial for height.. Spangle 0
I have never suffered with glare off my scope mounted lamp. Note the position of the lamp on the scope. Quote Link to post
Grousekeeper84 2
If [bANNED TEXT] dont like taping half a plant pot onto the bottom of the lamp put a sunshade or two onto the objective lens of the scope which will shade the lens and eliminate glare. It sounds a little rough but i have used and know a few keepers who tape the narrow type of tractor PTO guard onto the end so the scope end is closer to the end of [bANNED TEXT] moderator. Believe it or not this is quite secure and doesnt look too bad. Quote Link to post

Your scope is large objective and the Pred8 is fairly large also, (I have the same Mod on my .270 with 4.5>14x50 Leupold LPS scope and I get a similar problem with a scope mounted Lightforce on the top, but if the lamp is handheld away from the rifle it disappears. No covers, matt blacks etc will make a scrap of difference, the only way to stop it is to mount the lamp under the rifle using one of the clamp on brackets, or just get used to the glare and ignore it, (otherwise go out two handed and ditch the rifle mounted light).
