spannable 0
nothing wrong with a dog that trips them by a back leg to get them down as long as they go onto the throat as soon as they can like i said before you dont want a dog hanging off the deers back end it ruins the meat and the deer will make more noise til you can get to it Quote Link to post
Guest lurchers&terriers
Did people actually take deer in woodland? yes mate Quote Link to post
MOO 730
I have never seen a dog taken a deer its not my thing I will stick to rabbits ....everytime there is a deer thread the vast majority is nonsence total utter nonsence but UNFIT written some of the most sensible stuff ive read for a while Quote Link to post
Dan Edwards 1,134
Why do you call it nonsense? A proper dog will run up on the deer seize the hock, set the brakes on, drive through and topple it and then throat it. Nothin nonsense about that. As a matter of fact it might just be the most thrillin type of hunting that there is. 1 Quote Link to post

As a matter of fact it might just be the most thrillin type of hunting that there is.the only way they seem to learn that dan ,was if you take them of where they are and put them on the neck as a reward ,they soon learn that if they are on the neck they can stay there .and it was very thrilling .as you say ,because of the challenge ,only problem is they never retreve them to hand . scent 509
iv only had the pleasure of seeing a few decent deer dogs but the best iv seen was a deerhound ,wheaten cross .Sadly a hell of a lot of deer dogs die in unforgiving accidents where im from and that dog is no longer with us.As for commenting on dogs iv read about in books ,i wont because i wont judge a dog until iv seen him run myself ,as the saying goes believe half of what you hear Quote Link to post
