Guest ndrummond
Hi, I am new to this forum and would like some advice please. I have a 2 year old jill and have just aquired another 1 year old jill. When I put the both of them together they are fighting. The new ferret seems to be a bit afraid of the older one. I have a double tier hutch and have seporated them for the time being. I have exchanged some of their bedding with each other to get them used to each others smell. If I hold one up to the mesh on the hutch to smell the other, they seem ok. If I let them both out, they will just fight again. What can I do to get them to accept each other so I can put them in together. Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks, Neil. Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
when i started off i got a hob, then a jill. They got on fine. A year or so later i tried to introduce another jill and they would fight like buggery, they were seperated for about 8 months. They both got pregnant, and i put them in together and got on like a house on fire It can be a real pain in the arse for jills to accept each other. Never had any problems bringing hobs Quote Link to post
maty j 6
are they just dragging each other round by the scruff making lots of stink and noise? then there probably just sorting the order of whos boss out. let them fight it out there usually done in about 5 mins just keep an eye on them to make sure theres no blood and not getting too heated. it may look bad but theyve got very tough skin. thats what i do if there old enough to give it back if there receiveing it. Guest ndrummond
Thanks for that Matty, they do not seem to be dragging each other about, just in one place, going hell for leather. The new ferret stinks when they are at it. Would you let them fight it out in the hutch or outside. Quote Link to post
Pennymeadow Whippets 0
Is the original ferret in her own cage if so it could a territory fight i would introduce them both to a different cage & see how you get on if all is ok then clean out the biggest cage & re introduce them in to it together good luck Quote Link to post

blackdug 90
i find jill ferrets at this time of year to be really cranky..it,s there season and if they have not been mated they are all hormonal and get really weird ,,in my view keep them separated for another month or so ...one of my jills has been really cranky all summer ..biting me ,,the dogs and the other jill she has lived with all year ,,i just put her in her own cage ,,,for sure it is because she was not mated ,,gagging for it !!!the poor soul,,all the best ,, Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
personally i wouldnt bother , just seperate them, if you leave them in all night you will probably find the newbie in a state tomorrow & most likely very scared when you go to pick her up If the newbie is releasing her scent glands , she is scared & doing it to ward off the other jill, Quote Link to post
