how do you prepare your rabbits

Recommended Posts

If I'm stalking I gut each one straight away, if I'm lamping we'll typically stop half way through and gut what we have then do the rest at the end of the night.

After that they can sit in the fridge with the skins on for a couple of days before skinning, soaking and then sticking in the freezer.

I usually gut them before I take them home, But at night I always have a head torch to see what Im doing and make sure the liver looks ok, and theres no tape worm or cyst nonsense in any Im eating, any that do, I cut off an ear so I know its not for cooking.

if you go to game dealers hares do have the guts in. the thing thats important is the weather temp.

midle of winter when its cold you can gut a rabbit, the next day with no problems. of course its a darnsite easier to do it at night and leave the guts in a field.

as for length of time hanging, again if its the midle of winter hang rabbits for 3 to 5 days  belive you me they are better for it, and pheasants are best for a week
