Strange walk yesterday

Recommended Posts

I was out walking my Beddy/whipet lurcher and little black Patty yesterday around the fields at the rear of my house, nothing much doing a few rabbits about but too close to cover for the dogs then all of a sudden the Lurcher flew into a little copse of woods. Thinking he'd seen a rabbit i went into the wood and just caught sight of the back end of the Lurcher dissapearing down a hole. I got to the hole but he had totally dissapeared, i called him but nothing,by this time my little black un was going mad at the entance but i put him on his lead as i didnt fancy another dog down the hole!!

After 10 mins or so i started to panic as i didnt have any gear with me as it was only intended to be walk,i didnt want to leave in case he reappeared and i wouldnt have known. Another 5 mins went past and i started to hear him baying like mad, a short time later a fox bolted from another hole about 15yards away. He came back up soon after looking really pleased with himself!!

I'm new to lurchers and was wondering if this was a common thing with Beddy/whippets? is it the terrier in them taking over?

Anybody's oppinion welcome as i have never seen owt like it before!!

Cheers Ian.

The only time my beddy/whippet nearly went to ground was when he was about 6 months old towards the end of last season. My mate only just managed to gaff his tail at the last minute! He's about 22" now at just over 12 months old, so too big now.
