sore pads

Recommended Posts

You don't say if the pads are sore as in worn thin through too much running on hard/bad ground, or cracked through overexposure to water or wahat exactly.

If the dog is continually working in wet conditions this will soften the pads: not good. Make sure the dog's feet are dry when it is home/kenneled. Sudacream is OK for certain conditions: like cracked pads etc but I'd prefer to use something like Padsanol (get it from the greyhound megastore online).

Also make sure that there is enough animal fat in the dog's diet and that the diet is of good quality. Dogs fed on cheap cereal based food won't be as in as good health as those fed on a good quality meat based diet: what you see on the outside is merely a reflection of how the dog is on the inside. Pad condition, coat and general overall health will imprive if the dog's diet is improved.

If the pads are blistered then it may be to much road work so rest then a gradual build up.

If the skin around the pads is sore ot may be through wet so dry when kennled and especially clean mud from around nail beds or it could be mites causing an infection. Pics would have helped, better descrition?

dont turn a working dog into a pamperd pooch ,if you keep taking it out its pads will harden up ,then you wont have a problem .just like the people that live in poverty in other countrys ,that cant afford shoes .they dont sit at home ,they get out and keep going .
