DIOGIEBRINDLE 0
I'm the original author of this article from Dogsofgrit.com... the sites not up yet but from what i understand, it soon will be. That article was a sample and somehow people were able to find it, bad spelling and all. I never did this blog thing much but was told due to my controversial views in the dog world (i love dogs but hate dog lovers), experiences with various breeds and their activities i should start writing articles to get my thoughts out. I'm just going to break down some things i've noticed hunting Kayla (bull lurcher) with other lurchers: 1. kayla doesn't get near as many injuries- california has rough land, rocks, etc. Sticks break, though Kayla's lean, she's muscular, any limp she gets is gone in 24hours. No broken legs and still catches 2-3 rabbits in stride, dropping the dead to snatch up the living. 2. On a flat run the bull lurchers tend to be faster than other lurchers in 50-75 yards. they're more powerful and accelerate faster. And up hills and mountain sides, other lurchers can't compete at all. 3. after 75 yards, on flat surface, nothing other than other lurchers can out run a bull lurcher but bull lurchers are extremely more agile than other lurchers due to the bull power that enables them to turn and change direction and momentum way better than other lurchers. 4. GRIT- only the bull in "bull lurcher" can provide the level of grit that i expect from my pits, jack russels, bull boxer and bull lurchers. Whether its bob cat, coyote, cougar, bear, vampire or frankenstein, my Kayla's coming home to my wife and kids, yet meeting my expectations of performance. I'm not saying that she can woop Frankenstein. I'm saying she's going to close distance, make contact from time to time and keep the monster at bey. She may not rush him, but i'll bet Frankenstein won't rush at her either. And yes, if he takes too long to rush Kayla, she's going in at him with a focus on speed and agility rather than the actual contact of the fight. There's many other variables that favor both dogs in the hunt. I like GRIT, so i like bull lurchers. other lurchers may have some signs of grittiness but not actual grit. What is GRIT- - the relentless desire to approach and close ground - no hesitation when faced with intemmidating displays from animal or man less than twice the size of the dog - the relentless desire to initiate contact or remove advantages from a larger, more aggressive initiator through quickly fighting backing out and fighting again if necessary, over and over and over with out allowing the animal to run off regardless of energy or injury. I call this "in and out" and is a command i teach to my dogs. - relentless desire to stay in the "in and out" confrontation while constantly looking for an opening, even if it never comes - stamina - the desire to dominate its prey, not just catch up to it Grit is not gameness but is close to it. Many people classify their dogs as game but there's only one breed of dog that can achieve true gameness, an i'm not getting into that right now. With that said, enough for now. Thanks for enjoying the article and be nice to each other. P.S i didn't and am not going to proof read this.. Quote Link to post
twoface14 1
not having a go here as i like bullx's, but me persanoly don't class them as true lurchers but thats me, there just pure killing machines, a bullx is a bullx imo. but if you go back when there wernt as many bullx's about and colliex's where more popular, did they not have enough prey drive so why add bull blood in the mix . not having a go here i no bullx's have there place just dont understand why there so popular is it coz they look harder. And where did that prey drive come from? any lurcher in the country that has greyhound blood in them has bull in them. Quote Link to post
