johnmac666 2
well chaps been looking forward to getting out with the ferrets for a while now & we been chatting for few days when to get the young ones out, anyway as last night progressed & drank more beer we discussed going out in the morning ferreting ( crazy drunken ideas eh ? ) ( Sun) 7 am van packed ferrets awake fed & into travel boxes, we decided on taking four of the six ferrets we all have two of mine & two of my new hunting partners tom & his younger brother charlie, travelled up to a new permission we had just got last week , brew with farmer & off over to the first warren, netted up about 10/11 holes, sat around silent for what seemed ages then the ferrets was introduced , charlie entered his two from the end & placed my jill in the middle part of the warren & the oposite end we decided to enter my hob, then the waiting game began, 20 mins later we all looked at each other as if to say " can you hear squealing " then the all too familiar noise & bam rabbit no 1 hits the net, instant rumble again & from my end came bunny number two completely missing the net travelling at warp speed like he had seen the Devil & escapee no1 for 2009 ( my fault boys netted wrong ) about 3/4 hour later it is quie rain had started no sign of the ferrets & no bunnies then rabbit no 3 hit the net closely followed by my hob , after about an hour of ferrets popping in & out we decided to lift nets & try another set, so nets up & off we travel further down the valley, once we located where the warren was we netted up & it all started again silence for what does seem like eternity then, rumble rumble squeak rabbit no4 , closely followed by rabbit no5 (IN THE SAME NET ) tom was at a loss trying to untangle one bunny & another half in half out , rabbits dispatched & then rabbit6no 6 & 7 hit the nets, after a while it seemed like the inexperienced ferrets was getting the run around, no sign of any bunnies os we lifted the nets & decided to call it a day & hit the pub not bad total 6 for first time out with ferrets & bearing in mind they have never been worked before & are oly 6 months old, my new hunting partners are a credit to teenagers , i am the oldest out of the 5 of us who went out & these lads have a passion for ferreting & shooting i once had when i was young, we have planned another trip out to the same farm as we was told later by the farmer that on the other side where we was is a large 45 hole warren, too big at the moment for ours they would get the run around but they will keep for later in season when the ferrets get more experienced, sorry about the quality of the pics but we wasnt expecting much regards john Quote Link to post
