Mum has finally let me have a dog

Recommended Posts

I am a big fan of beddywhips but shorley they are mostly rabbit dogs. This dog he gets will me with him for a long time and he may like running quarry other than just rabbits. Before the beddy gang start hounding me for that comment i realise there are exceptions, but shorely a bullx is the far better allrounder for him.

my experiance with the 1st x collie grey has bin that they are absaloute spot on to train, but as soon they come of age, they over think things to much. picky with runs ect. but thats just the one bitch, but very easy to train and also very loyal cross, but just a bit to much collie for a first dog maybe?

just wondering what 1st x collie grey you had experience with TB? i use bitsa's mate they do me perfectly find my bitch is 23/24 tts i could use here round these welsh valleys on the hills and shell do well i also take her across the bridge on the more flatter/bigger fields and shes just the same there pick rabbits up for fun ANY dog can be good my mate got a 3/8s 5/8s bull grey and shes just as good as my bitch then iv seen some who will catch 1/10 rabbits...if i was you id think about what you will be running mostly and where you will be running mostly trust me when you drive you will get across that bridge and will love it over there so dont go picking no 21 inch pocket rockets for ferreting as you will only be gutted in the long run when you see bigger rabbits leaving it for dust across the bridge...23,24,25 inch is plenty for all round i got a bitch here my 1st lurcher 21 tts does well around here but i see the difference in a bitch out of her whos 23/24 when it comes to running bigger/faster stuff theres always good pups about these valleys i know plenty of lurcher lads up here, if i hear of any good litters planned i let you know i wont bullsh*t you for the boys to make a few £££ your only 20 mins from me if i do hear of any and let you know im sure whoever bred the pups will let you see the parents work...if you was looking about 3 months ago i could of got you a very well bred pup collie bull grey for £100 it would of been the best £100 you had ever spent mother and father spot on good luck in finding a pup if i was you i wouldnt buy off anyone unless u seen both parents go

lmao how can anyone say forget about whippets!! :realmad: the lad wants advice on getting a dog and he his getting advice to stay away from the breed??? yes whin you are obviously knowledgeable..... pencoed you dont need big dogs to take big stuff... if a little terrier can do it then so can a whippet and trust me they can! whatever you want to go for get a dog to suit the land you are intending to hunt if its big open fields then the collie x grey or saluki x grey ect are what you would be looking at if there small fields then the whippet and whippet crosses are what your looking at matey...

yis ;)

What if he wants to do small fields and big fields ? Does he buy a whippet & a greyhound collie and run the whippet in the small field then run the other in the big field next door ??

Im not even sure if iv ever seen a whippet die naturaly most of them die of hypothermia or brake in half on a bit of rough ground dont they ?

you dont get to see working whippets and whippet crosses work i gather??? any of my last 3 dogs i owned all took charlie rabbit and long ears... as well as many other lads who have owned them... and if it is primarily large open areas he hunts then he needs a breed with a bit more wind in it...a good friend of mine has a whippetxbull that was f*****g game as you like on all quarry.. too many lads including you knock the breed unfairly imho and you call yourselves dog men??? :censored:

To be honest mate a whippet cross would be your best bet for your 1st. theyre quiet, biddable, and easy trained.

why dilute the whippet blood they are faster as a pure breed and exellent rabbiting dogs day or night .. the beddy in them can make them yappy if they are struggling on a rabbit

whippet gets knocked up so easy thow mate, mate has got 3 as a good nights lamping on decent ground put them out of action for next couple of nights.they always get knocked up but they cant half shift.grate little dog but i think if i wanted a small dog for ferreting id have collie whippet grey. atvb with watever pup you buy mate.
