Out at last

Recommended Posts

Well after a bit of rain to soften the ground a little, i thought it was about time to start getting the ferrets used to being out, i only have one left from last year,

Anyway, i only had a couple of hours spare this morning but figured that was enough to start them off.

Dragged my brother along on his first time Rabbiting too!!

First bury we got to, was a dead simple two holer, the dog wasn't showing much interest, but, hell, it only takes a couple of mins to set the nets, in goes this years jill, and ............................... Nothing! i really need to trust the dogs instincts more :notworthy:

Next up was a much larger bury, but a hell of a lot of nettles, we chopped back what we could and netted up, down went last years jill and then gave this years hob a run, would he enter?, would he feck!, but never one to quit i let him have a wander round to get his confidence up, in the meantime BANG! one in the net followed by the jill.

Once the hob got the scent, he started to enter, so maybe one for the future, we shall wait and see.

Next thing i stepped back and heard a sqeal, Damn, i had trod on my jill :wallbash: , she seemed ok, but a little lethargic, so packed up and headed back toward the car, on the way, Checked on the jill, and she seemed to have perked up somewhat, so stopped to try one last bury, 8 holer, in a muck/soil pile.

This time i tried this years jill and hob, both entered well, the jill was up and down, but the hob stayed under for a time then, BANG, number 2 in the net.

We called it a day after that, just the gutting to do which came down to the "new boy" ,lol, To be fair, he did a fair job for his first time, and only turned a little green :D

The last years jill now seems fine and perkey again, maybe was a bit winded.

Sorry no pics today, left my phone at home, i'll get some up during the season though.
