Euro Polecat Hob- 16 wks

Recommended Posts

Ok here we go,

I have kept and worked ferrets for several years, I handle all my animals every day but due to work/ family commitments etc only for a very limited time.

The opportunity came up to take this Polecat and I made a snap judgement without the information of the handling time Polecats require.

Yes I find the animal difficult to handle, unlike any ferret I have experienced which is why he requires rehoming after a very short period with me.

The easy way would be to ignore my mistake and keep the animal in an unsuitable home, that way I would have avoided judgemental comments in a public forum, but the animal deserves a home which has the experience and time he requires.

Would you be happier if I had not posted and the animal be culled or worse kept in an unsuitable home?

Festa, no offence taken.

It does'nt look backed up when you took the pic, are you sure it does'nt just need a bit more handling? Looks a fit little git :D

I think its a polecat coloured ferret not one of these european jobbies

Hard to tell without a proper DNA test, but looks the part of an EP brilliant white face very dark black fur. Only problem is I've got three that match this description and all are fezzers. Hence DNA testing is needed to confirm the genetics.

fantastic looking animal, like the above posts have said it would need testing to determine its true lines, pure poleys behave totaly different to a ferret, there quiter and generally dont like to be handled much, there certianly not for the begginer, they can sometimes look more poley than ferret due to a heavier/ more muscular build. hope everything works out and you find a suitable home, just be sure the animals not passed on to anyone in-experienced,atb

Stealth, Mushroom, Scothunter & Heritage, nice to have constructive and positive input, appreciated.

Dogsn', whilst i dont have the experience to comment, my pm inbox highlights a number of people who disagree with you, Some people will work them, others claim it just is not possible. I have spoken to 2 people who claim to work 100%ers and hybreeds of varying degrees, your experience suggests the opposite.

What I have taken from this is that some have the time, character and experience to work them while others for reasons unknown fail. This is a valid discussion which will probrably go on and on.

All unanswered Pms will be replied to on sunday at some stage as I will be out in the field doing what we all love to do all day and evening tomorow.
