Newby 0
I am very fortunate in that the job I do, one days work a week pays all of my outgoings , mortgage, bills ect. Gamekeeping is something I’ve always wanted to be involved in, and now I have the time to follow it up. I don’t want to make a living from Gamekeeping only be involved in the job someway. I have contacted Gamekeepers local to me and offered free help, but to no avail. I was just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions or advice. Thanks Quote Link to post
ratattack 111
Get yourself onto their beating teams and make contacts that way. Most keepers will want to know you before they let you out into their patch. I would imagine it will be quite difficult for you to work as a keeper as you are married and i guess not able to move/travel too far to do the work??? The beating would be the best bet then you can get into helping etc from there. Quote Link to post

ROB.BOB 21
i asked the keeper i beat for if i could help him out in the summer, he couldnt help me (its only a very small shoot and there would be nout for me to do) so he gave me a number for another keeper nearby (that shoot is HUGE in the best sence of the word, GIGANTIC!) so i helped there, in the october holls im helping at a grouse moor that i met the owner for, its all about getting your foot in the door! Moving isn't a problem though. Quote Link to post

bullmastiff 615
Fair play to you! work to live, not live to work I take it your a consultant of some sort. Only thing I could think of you doing is contacting some larger shoots, try the back of the shooting times. Go and see the Keeper face to face if you can. If a stranger phoned you offering to work for free, they probably wouldn't get the time of day. 'You get nowt for free these days' so I would presume they had other reasons for wanting to be on the estate? At least face to face he'll listen to you, even if it's just out of politeness. Don't forget though, if your working on the Estate then their still obliged to pay you minimum wage (it is the law don't forget) and they can probably get a keen, fit, single, lad straight from college with more experience and training than you for the same money. Good luck with your search though. Quote Link to post
