straight collie

I used to have a straight collie called maddison - had her for 8 years - she would mark, retrieve, sit in a pigeon hide all day, bush, and catch bolted rabbits - was more than quick enough the catch em - I would guess she would have worked the lamp but it was not my thing at the time.

Partly the reason why i wanted something with collie in the mix this time - a very capable and underestimated dog is that there collie.

yeah very clever but do they have the balls like a bull x seem to be very good in the way of cutting off rabbits and running outside the beam but does it take that little longer to get them onb fox where as a bull x could be doing at 12 months.

suppose its 6 and two 3s

my dog has collie in him, no bull and took his first fox at 11 1/2 month. :gunsmilie:

Iv got a colliex, just a farm mongrel. He takes rabbits well and rats with gusto. The odd hare here and there too. I wouldnt put it past him on taking a fox hes very strong and is a formidible guard and PP dog very tough on other dogs when playing and isnt very forgiving with them either. The collies on the family's farm used to chase foxes and kill easily (3 of them roughly 8 years old at the time) were much better when young I was told.

when i was a kid i saw two farm collies pull a badger out of a set that was dug by what seemed like at the time some really old men. a memorable moment that i think about often.

alot of people dont think border collies as strong dogs. Some farms ive been round , the border collies ive seen were powerful+nasty feckers. And i reckon if they could catch a fox , they would kill them easy. And as guard dogs , 50-60lb of feckin teeth hard nasty feckers. :o

so collie x grey shouldnt have a problem taking fox?

[if] you get the right collie, a collie xgrey will do foxes. But the same with all dogs you get good+crap, but get goodun they will do foxes easy.

were a straight collie able to do fox single handed pre ban

Years ago i used to go on this farm on the preseli mountains WestWales with our small pack ov beagles, the farm we used to go on was such ruged terain the old farmer used to farm it on horse back , he s pased away now but 1 of his collies was a gud fox dog, my mate bread him to a greyhound some 20 years ago and we still got the line going

got three generaitions of fox roe rabbbit hare killers when it was legal on to my fourth generaition but there only six months , alot of colli crosses are to nesh and as the pro breeders mass produce well they get less and less good tried and tested collie lurchers , me i try the greyhound out before i put her to any colli or my own line they are at least four before i breed so thye are well worked at game and foxes pre ban if you breed of tried and tested dogs and ebter them proparly theyl take a stinking fox but no big deal you cant eat a fox cant sell it all the reason i kill them pre ban to leave the game for me or if a farmer asked then sort it out any way and means , in the usa a god red fox like a good coated winter one makes between 15 and 30 pound a pelt good money for vermin or varmits as they say . we dont get many localy to well shot keepers etc but near towns well plenty ,
