oakey 57
I've just been given a tip that the parish council in the next village is looking for a ferreter to do the cemetry . I did think about it but i've decided against it on two counts one there isn't that many rabbits 4 to 5 max bag the other being nosie members of the public moaning about killing things in a churchyard. does anyone on here do anything simmiler and do you have any problems ? camokid 125
not worried about that but i would be worried about putting my hand down the rabbits hole and pulling out some fuc*ers head........... Quote Link to post
mushroom 13,030
mate of mine ferreted a embankment adjacent to a vicarage. Ferret came out of a hole inside the vicars chicken run. Needless to say all hell broke loose we laughed now but at the time it made local press what an uproar  . Vicar was sound bought him some more chickens, problem with him sorted. Joe public were the buggers they reported it to the papers. Quote Link to post
stubby 175
I would have said yes, a few reasons, yes you may get nosey public, but then thats an oppotunity to educate them, putting the argument across that the rabbits are causing subsidence of the grave stones, would imagine most people would agree with your work, secondly you'd be doing a service for the church, more things may come from it example; a couple of years ago, a company put a post up on this forum, asking for a ferreter to ferret a single field in harlow, a one off, no longterm permission, about 15 replies were left to it, before I saw it, so I added my name to the list, a few months past and they got in touch with me, everyone else who had agreed to do it, had took one look at the field and declined, because it looked hard to ferret and looked poor numbers, anyway, I ferreted it, removed around 25 rabbits and e mailed the guy, from that I recieved full permission to the field when ever I wanted (my first permission) I did this place around 4 times a year, it turned out my efforts were not wasted, the field and the guywho contacted me, were in the hands of the land management company strutt & parker, I now have more rabbiting permission than I could shake a stick at whats that saying, from small acorns, mighty oaks will grow Quote Link to post

Guest lavyheed
I ferret a graveyard just down the road from me. I thought the same as you about the public being a pain in the rear! I was wrong. The few that i have spoken too are more than happy for me to be there, their opinions were, the less rabbits jumping about meant less damage to the graves and the flowers staying where they are meant to be. poacher3161 1,766
I would have snapped it up only worry from the public is [bANNED TEXT] you have got a terrier as an hunting partner as spades and terriers only mean badger diggers to some of the uneducated public as i once found out wile ferreting nr a public footpath.atb dell Quote Link to post
JordKil 0
I ferret on a local footpath and get well...mixed reactions. Some old codgers give me thumbs up and yap for ages about their youth ferreting while some aint so nice. Had one woman who was walking with a dog walker i often see. She asked what I was doing and I said ferreting the walker didnt agree and I respect that as its her view and just walked away casually while the old bag walked right up in my face and said that Im (and quote) 'f*****g disgusting' and 'should be ashamed of myself for chasing poor wee bunnies'. I did my best to educate and explain but she was having none of it and her fat colliex tried it with one of the ferrets lets say my dog didnt take too kindly to that! I just pointed the way down the path and told her to just go. Now I see her everyday on the way home from work and get a lovely scowl and cursing under her breath lol. I just smile and wave. You cant win em all! But you win more than lose i think. ATB Jordan Quote Link to post
andy s410c 61
Personally i would take any permission no matter how small or how few rabbits are on it...you don't know what it can lead to...further permissions on the neighbours land or in your case more parish council land.I do a lot of yomping on my land for a average bag of 5 rabbits but i get pleasure from just being out there with the ferts doing a bit Quote Link to post
