cameroncharles 2
Hi folks, just tried out my s/h lightning last night. In .22 with theoben ram. As a newbie returning after 15 years I have to say the scopes and guns have come on along way! 5pence hole at 30yds.very happy, but boy does it suffer from drop, 50yds being some 4plus inches over hold..I'm using 14.6gram rws domed as came with the rifle, just wondered if the great forum community could recommend some pellets for a longer straighter 35yd to 50 yd flight path. Phew, many thanks for reading and any advuce is appreciated. Regards, Cam Quote Link to post
air gunner 0
Hi have you had the gun chronoed at your local gun shop. It is to be expected that the pellets drop at that distance i use a bsa supersport springer (soon to be gas rammed) with rws superdomes and they also drop at 50yrds. Quote Link to post
cameroncharles 2
thanks for that..yep running at 11.4lbs. My old gun was a supersport, good and reliable bless her, think i should change my scope from hawke 3-9mag to one with px! think this will help me get my eye back in on ranges. Quote Link to post
aaronpigeonplucker 32
generally lighter pellets will work but if you have mildots on your scope and plenty of time to practise then holdover can be deadly and you can stick to the pellets you know work for you! Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
50 yards is pushing it a bit for any sub FAC airgun, never mind a lightning. If you're a good shot (really, I mean. Leaving egos and BS out of it!), 40 is a more realistic maximum. Cheers. PS.... For what it's worth, no, light pellets slow down much quicker than normal or heavy pellets so they are not best for those longer shots. Quote Link to post
cameroncharles 2
Many thanks folks for the great answers, found that is was way to tight whilst prone..relaxed,easied off and got 10p groups at 40..happy as..never would have made that years ago. Found my pellet drop from 20-30-35-40-45-50. Result def change scope for a mil dot..great things.. there will be a hawke hd 3-9 for sale shortly i suspect. may i say how friendly and useful this forum and as jack would say..damn it..how time changes.. this forum gives newbies and experienced a chance to by pass years a mistakes..brilliant..blimey..21st century eh.. kindest regards cam Quote Link to post
cameroncharles 2
gotta say..how low the recoil is compared to my old supersport 22. that theoben is very very smooth in compasrision to a springer from the 90's. cam Quote Link to post
furdy 0
If you're impressed with the lightening and shoot that well just wait until you try a decent PCP......!!!! Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
If you're impressed with the lightening and shoot that well just wait until you try a decent PCP......!!!! Or even a good springer..... Cheers. Edit to say.... The best pellets I've found for my own Lightning (.22) are H and N FTs. Edited October 10, 2009 by andyfr1968 Quote Link to post
