I washed them out with salt water and the dog is keeping them clean with licking. My preference is to leave it open to let it heal but I'm open to suggestions. Cold Ethyl 63 Posted October 7, 2009 Report Share Posted October 7, 2009 Got this myself with my bitch just now a peach of a cut too.I use savlon wound wash to clean it as it floods the wound and foams slightly to get any grot out and then either wound powder or a wee bit of germolene initially then i leave it alone and let the dog take it easy.Wound wash is basically hibiscrub which is what most vets use anyway. Cold Ethyl 63 Posted October 9, 2009 Report Share Posted October 9, 2009 Get wound wash from any chemists mate its a handy thing to have for the dogs ive been using it for a while now and other people i know are too.It seems to speed things up a bit and i cant fault it tis wonder stuff.Wound powder from the pet shop is good for this too a few quid for a bottle and easy to use dogs arent clean on licking the place you put the wound wash either cos its horrid to the taste and very bitter so it stops intensive licking and bothering the wound. I initially washed out with salty water, and after some of the advise above I bout some purple spray and wound powder. On lead walks I strapped it up with vetwrap but removed once finished. I had one small set back when I let him the back for a a ron riss, when he bolted after a squirrell. The tear opened up but not too bad. After two weeks all was loking good so I took him for a brief shine (strped up with vet wrap). He had 3 runs and nailed 2 bunnies. got him home and all was good. Had another couple of short sessions with him with no problems (still strapped with vetwrap) , so took him out last week and bolted bunnies to him over 4 hours. Once again no ill efects. Thanks to those that offered the advice. . . . . in all it's been 4 weeks since the initial tear and we are up and running !! Quote Link to post Share on other sites

You can buy stopper protectors from the Greyhound Shop in Chiswick,they come in either waxed cotton or leather ,and ,are fastened with velcro,vet wrap does the job too , with maybe a pad of cottonwool on the stopper.The wrap can be glued on at the start of the day if needs be, just be careful not to wrap too tightly.A good hardener for the stoppers[and pads],once the cuts are healed ,is surgical spirit..
