Fat-Ferret 857
i also have two 25yd nets and was going to ask the same question how much bag is advisable for use as a stop/hedge breaking net? would 75% do the trick? cheers Id say 75% would work ok, But no doubt somebody will disagree, If 75% is all thats in it, then use it, I always try and use 100%, But sometimes with old off cuts for stop nets and the like, It doesnt work out, but as long as theres some, hopefully the dog will get there before the bunny gets away Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
He wont have enough net for 6 poles 5 yards apart! But 5 would do, as Salmon said, Net Loft, Or Hazel....But when you start to use nets, you will buy more..... yes he will because you have one at each end , and they are for ferreting so plenty of rabbits will be hitting a short area (in theory ) so closely laid poles will help keep the net up. Expert in longnetting now are you? I will listen to people who have done it and know. STEATHLY1 Hurry up and get fit so we can have that days ferreting,so you can show me your longnetting skills,i must warn you i am a longnetting virgin I'm not claiming to be an expert, but if they're there I can catch them Quote Link to post
heritage 202
generally hedge nets are constructed differently to a traditional longnett. they would contain less bag and less depth as there designed to be passed through a hedge and are more likley to pick up debris if made to "normal" longnet sizes. its a very fine line between catching fleeing rabbits & spending the day picking crap out your nets. waidmann 105
sorry teapot i think that was in reply to my bit of hijacking thanks fat ferret and heritage i have just got myself some electric fence poles 36 inch and wil try to set up this afternoon,on a dry debri free field. should be ferreting at the weekend so i'll give them a go for real then. we went on sunday but the cover was still a bit rough and four or five made it away across the field( on the opposite side of the fence to the dog of course!)to a small warren in between badger sets( thought of backnetting them next time).managed to get seven in a couple of hours with the young ferrets. let us know how you get on with your 25 yarders mate, what you have used them for etc. i'm sure mine will come in handy. waidmann Quote Link to post

ellir0305 9
god this longnetting is trickier than it first seems, i thought peg to peg covered it well but it seems it merely brushed the surface of a deeply complex subject atb i think i might break my 50 yard trad set down into 2 x 12yrd stops and a 26yrd longnet. i think with my level of skill these lengths will be more manageable to start off with and much more versatile for ferretingmy hazel poles are drying nicely. looks like i need to knock up some more pins atb rob Quote Link to post

Thanks for the pics NETMAN they are as clear as mud . I think i am going to have to get out this weekend just to setting the longnets before i take them ferreting,i will put some pics up so you good folk on this section could tell me if it right or more likely wrong . ellir0305 9
thanks teapot, i think i will try and tied in the bagging first and see how i got on. still thinking of splitting for ferreting purposes though, and money wise i could get another longne fairly cheap as loe catcher is a great chap and sorted me out for a great price atb rob Quote Link to post
