Sold my S400... Now need some wise advice

Recommended Posts

Hmm... i'm getting alot of HW100 being pushed my way :hmm: Ok guys, you've got me interested, well, alot more interested than i originally was in this chunk of German metal. I'm gonna go do some research...

The workmanship on these guns is second to none, and out in the field when shooting bunnies, the side leaver is the b****cks for shooting one after the other, purely because you dont have to move your hand far from the trigger, less movement for Mr Bunny to see, and they are whisper quiet ;)

hmmmm!

while the hw100 is undoubtably a very good gun it is very heavy and every time ive used my mates one i cant help thinking its a bit agricultural!

the rapid7 is still being made and a new gun is a new gun no matter how old the design is!

i like the bas R10 but im not so sure about the odd cocking mechanism! firing a shot then pulling the trigger back again to cock the gun would take some getting used to!

if it was me id go for a bsa superten bull barrel!

cheers

I know you've had a lot of HW100 recommendations already, but i'll offer mine too.

I've had my 100 for just over a year now, and its astoundingly good. With good optics and the right pellet, you really can put pellets through the same hole at 35 yards.

My mate has a BSA Scorpion T-10 which is also a great piece of kit, its lightweight and feels good in your hands, but the bolt action is a lot more clumsy than the HW100's side lever, and the magazine is far from ideal. The HW100's mag on the other hand is flawless.

Check out the AA S510 though. I haven't held one in my hands, but if you liked your S400 it might be worth a look.

I'm looking at the Daystate Mk4, the HW100 (carbine) and the AA S510, the HW100 seemed far too heavy for me, well made yes, but it would be like carrying a brick around for most of the night.

So now i'm stuck between the daystate Mk4 and the AA S510, although the HW100ncould still be in with a chance depending on the accuracy, but up to 40 yds, is there anything to choose between them.I have an S200 which does everything that is askd of it, but i would just like more of a shot count and maybe more pellets in the mag (which the AA & Daystate don't have over the S200)

Basically, are the 510, the Mk4 & the HW100 worth the money against an S200 and what are you paying for exactly??

I've heard bad accuracy issues with the R10 Tris, Don't know how true they are but something to consider. I have a S400 and wouldn't dream of selling It! Pellet on pellet and It's not gone wrong since I bought It S/H a good few years ago. I've just got a MK2 rapid and that Is a lovely gun too. Very smooth to shoot and has a phenominal shot count over 400, More than enough for most hunting trips :D

Tris all the rifles that you have mentioned are really good rifles friend.

If any of the regulars on here were to be given a free Daystate, BSA, Rapid, Weihrauch or AA they would snap it up im sure and use it plus say its a wonderful piece of kit.

Be very careful with Draepers as they have rubbish after care and can be very expensive. Ive personally had 3 bad experiences with them and now dont go there anymore. They are not interested in customer satisfaction as long as they sell and get your money they will tell you anything.

I was going to live in Germany and couldnt take my 3 rifles with me. I wanted a quick sale as time was running out and wanted a fair price. 1 pre charged rifle almost new, 2 tuned springers all mint condition with good scopes and mounts. They offered me £400 saying that it was the best they could offer due to the slowing in gun sales.

Yeah right and Zini is stupid. They got the birdy and i left giving them nothing. Greedy b--tards.

My advice to you mate is go into a gun shop. Use Dreapers if you wish just as its in the Notts area and handy to your location. They have a range under the shop where they mount and zero scopes if you ask them. Ask them if you can take the rifles that you like down there and test fire each one yourself. See which one fits your body the best and feels right for you. You will be paying good money so get it right first time and dont end up with a gun that you dont really feel right with.

Like ive said in previous posts all the guns are more accurate than the shooter believe me Tris. Bad accuracy is down to many things including a gun not fitting the shooter.

Example. I think that the majority of small framed shooters would find it hard to shoot a Weihrauch HW 77 or HW 97 accurately. Both guns can be shot by a bigger framed shooter and they will hit everything they fire at from 10 to 45 metres. The HW 77 is a legend in its own rights and won just about every award in the mid 80's. The gun or the shooter? Id say the gun is not the fault here and that the shooter is the key.

This is the same for you Tris so spend time researching whats best for you.

Best of luck

Si

i've tried all three at ranges, the daystates impresive but heavey, the HW was a dream but i got a rapid mainly because of the hi shot count.. it lasts all day lol... like on a squirrel day when your all over the wood chaising 50 odd down there's no time for a refill every 70-80 shots... or 35-40 on a smaller cylinder gun lol. it's a now or never day.

ive been offered a rapid 7 ,and the guy has given it to me to try and in all honesty it is one of the older models and it shoots like a dream its been well looked after too its got to be pre1990 but it certainly does not look it
