Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter 16
Earlier this week i took the dogs & ferrets locally along the Dandenong Bike track, a 5 min drive from home here, for a burn around Don't worry the current cage/carry box is just a passing fad as a traditonal carry box is being made very soon. Today, well i went for a drive with my faithful pair of dogs. Mel & Molly also came along. I travelled across to the Myrniong region not far west of Baccus Marsh. Around an hours drive west from Melbourne city. This was the old stamping ground from years ago for a spot of traditional Ferreting. After saying hello to the new property owners, it was like the old days, although i was on my own so it was a pretty casual affair. The results of a mild winter are quite apparent with very dry conditions, save for a few spring weeds here and there. The first area i worked was an 18 set bury. Tasha holds her head & ground proud with a nice pair. Coco cruises back in to the set after an unsuccessful chase on a rabbit she had flushed from some nearby tussocks. Nice easy set here, although it was a non event action wise. Given the late start of 2.00pm before Mell & Moll were set to work, I only did three sets all up. They were so good considering it was their first outing. Good on the Nets without any tangles & no hold ups despite getting a bit of run around from a couple of bunnys. In the end i had just the 3 to take home, but a great days sport with some great memories rekindled. I'll be back again soon, as the current stock & size of the Underground Chickens here display there was an early mating season this year. The smaller ones are almost half grown already. So this means less hassle with tiny bunnys getting slaughtered below ground by fired up Ferrets. Cheers, Shaun Quote Link to post

Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter 16
Cracking pics mate Is that a dark eye white in the carry box? Thankyou for the cheerio's guys, Yes, actually its the first dark eyed white i have owned. She has a slight almost charcoal dusting along the top of her back. Very switched on little girl she is, just on 12 months old & was desexed around 2 months ago. Has a fantastic demeanour & is a joy to handle. She's the one in my avatar pic. Here's a larger shot for better detail. Here's another of Molly, her sister in Polecat coloration. One more of them doing there daily WWF tryouts On the issue of clean rubbish free burrows. Although we have plenty of blackberry patches & other assorted shitpiles to work ferrets in My father was never a real fan of them as it was such a job to nail around the same amount numbers wise as the more open accessible buries. It's rubbed off on me as i find it a lot more enjoyable , as well as not cutting up the dogs into shredded paper Still i have noticed some of the longnet arrangements that encircle the bury on other posts here. Would be great in some areas i work. I suppose we are very lucky in some areas, that the buries look almost as if designed by a warren architect as they can be paced out along some hillsides, with pretty much the same distance and hole count on each one Cheers, Shaun Edited October 4, 2009 by Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter Quote Link to post

Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter 16
Hi Luke, Thanks for the offer, we'll have to catch up for sure I almost headed towards the Werribee area, but decided to go to the old property we always worked to see how things were. Between the pair of us it could be good 4 dogs, two for buries, two for escapes... Would be fun mate. It is unreal hey, we live 45 mins away from each other yet have joined common interests on a website that's headquarters are 12,000 friggin miles away Cheers, Shaun Edited October 5, 2009 by Downunder_Sthn_Ferreter Quote Link to post
