first trip out

Recommended Posts

first trip out yesterday. a bit of anxiety before hand as i was taking two new ferrets out and was unsure of the hunting abilities.

arrived at ground and took a little walk around. not many rabbits to be seen but plenty of fresh markings around burrows. so we set up a medium sized burrow entered the new hob who went down no problems.he reappeared shortly after that licking the grass at the hole but not wanting to come out. after eventually getting him to come out and him repeating the licking everytime i put him down he eventually stayed down for about ten mins then bang on rabbit in the net. nothing else followed that one so we trotted off to another burrow this time entering both the hob and the jill. both did not reappear for 15 mins. locatewd the hob a couple of feet down dug down and bunny number two in the bag. then started locating the jill. two bunnies then bolted. dug to where jill was and another bunny for the pot. on more bunny after that another dig but not deep.

the hob had killed another one underground somewhere but came out and would not go back to it. so lifted nets and headed home as the rain was getting heavier and the wind was awful.

6 bunnies in the bag, no myxi, signs of plenty of bunnies in the area and two new ferrets that have turned out to be good hunters. successful day :clapper::D

Aye good one. Took a look earlier yesterday at my spot and there was a couple in the fields and seen a few dart to the burrows, so plenty of activity. I too am working 3 new ferrets, I dont have a ferret locator yet so I am trying to hang on till another month till I get one. I went out about a fortnight ago and didnt see a thing in the fields. But the winter is coming so roll on ice cold mornings!
