home made target holders

Here is a tip for making your own target holder

As chaz and I held a meet back in august, we thought it would be a good idea to make some cheep! Holders but durable.

So all you need is

One length of thin coat plaster stopend bead 2.4mm,

One length of wooden door stop, or roofing batten 2.4mm,

And one metal joist strut,

Pair of tin snips, or hacksaw,

A heavy duty staple gun,

Some 10mm screws,

tube P.V.A glue

And some spray paint.

You may have to make a "L" clamp to apply pressure to fix, when applying the glue, and this you do by using a square ,pencil two lines on a firm base like a work bench then screw 2 separate bits of wood to the pencil lines hence "L"shape

First of all you measure your required target size, mitre cut 4 bits of wood add some P.V.A glue to mitres and staple together

Then cut the stopend bead by cutting 2 V cuts and then this will bend to fit, then get an old saw and slide it in the grove of the metal bead. And then panel beat “so to speak†to make the metal wider. Then staple these to the wooden frame, starting at the bottom. Before you fix the last piece just dry fit it with the target as you may find it will need adjusting as these are custom made

Then grab the joist strut and cut in half, and fix to the back of the target.

Then you should have some thing that looks like this

ABCD0015-6.jpg

then all you have to do is spray paint and the end result is

like this

ABCD0017-9.jpg

you can also do A4 size targets just cut to size and repeat the process

like this

and in true blue peter style, here is a few i made earlier

just be sure when using these targets, that you have a good backstop.

happy making
