run floor covering

Recommended Posts

my pup is getting on well and i will put the pics up when i have 5 mins sorry :icon_redface:

any way, due to poor design and forethought my dog run needs to be sprayed and brushed out every time little angus decides to soil himself in there (he is starting to poo on demand, but due to his age whole days when im at college arent really doable for him to cross his legs for.

anyway, i am worried that in the winter his run floor will not dry out as quickly as it is now and it might be wet and cold which is not good for him at all. so i was wondering if this is a new problem or if people cover the floor of the run with say sawdust or an absorbent material/chipping to keep the floor dry and mean that you just remove the lumps and scoop the wees out.

or another daft question is it worth litter training him so he goes in one speific place where i can place a tray.

being my first dog he is teaching me as much if not more than i am teaching him, but at 11 weeks he is steady with sheep and chickens getting on well with his lead and sit and recall .

will the amount of times he curls one down a day reduce as he get older?

the poor chap ate too much meaty bone yesterday and has unfortunately got the runs at the moment.

thanks guys for all your help so far

puppyhood for you mate, I am going through it also, puppys are hard work at times, HAve you got concrete flooring in your run, ie flags or concrete itself???

I wouldn't worry about it to much, the pup will sort his act out with the dirtys soon, how big is your run?? Its hard to answer as I don't know the whole situation??? If he is soiling his sleeping area that is a huge problem for yourself and really needs to be addressed, but if the run is large enough and he is doing his business in the exercise area I wouldn't worry. He will gradually get cleaner as he is bigger, just think of babies mate,

My answer isn't the best but if you would be abit more specific I will try to answer you better mate,

Looking forward to the images

yes the floor itself is concrete, and it is only in the exercise / feeding area so i am a bit worried about the hygiene issue. i have worked out why he has the ab dabs though he has got works but he has has his tablet today so should be sorted in a few days.the run area is 7x5 exercise area

thanks for the help so far and i have scrubbed out the run with mild solution of jeyes fluid and rinsed it out well to disinfect the floor.

no need to worry mate, as longas its not near the sleeping area its fine, perfectly nomal behaviour, just keep on top with the cleaning.

yes it is curently a board pallet area with smooth top and a fixed wall , but i am going to get a seperate kennel box thing to go in so it warm and can be removed completely to clean down and getvetbed bedding to everything is much more hygeinic.

what cleaners does everyone use and what performs best

thanks atb rob

Hi Rob,

It would be helpful if you take a couple of picture's and show us what your set up is, and we can see what you could do to sort it out?

I wouldnt really use jeyes fluid because the dogs can sometimes be stained with the smell.

its better than the smell of wet dog lol i am also looking at using bleach i think it was 1;32 bleach to water.

it is a rough cocrete floor i was contemplating skimming the srface with a smooth redering and a goo layerof flooring paint so it can be sprayed and squeegied out leaving it almost dry straight away

Use polished granite with concrete as a skim, Once it's dry get a buffer out and buff it.

Only problem is it get's quite slippy in the winter month's.
