snares and length

Recommended Posts

What sort of wire have you bought there, my friend?

The reason I ask is that most rabbit fence snares are spun from brass wire in shorter lengths unless you know something I don't!!

I find the best length for fence snares to be 23 inches

OTC

its 3mm brass wire but my uncle works building industry and is bringing over 1000 meters of stainless steel what sort of lenght for that mate thanks for the help

Is it multi-stranded or cabled brass wire or single ply? Are you sure it is brass and not copper?

Steel cable has limited use for rabbit snare making - it is virtually unbreakable but doesn't set or act the same as brass.

also how do you make pegged snares for next to burrows i only know enough for fence but would love to learn how to make pegged any help would be greatly appreciated

Have a good read through the pinned articles on rabbit snaring at the top of this forum for top quality advice from the snareman.

Single ply brass is not very durable and will snap once kinked, you need the proper sort of 6 strand brass snares to be fully effective for what you intend to used them for.

thanks mate you have been a really good helping hand to me will get some 6 starnd wire ordered

You can't buy the six strand wire, you get six strand snares when you spin the brass wire together,pm WOODGA and get a copy of his dvd,it will tell you everything you need to know ;)

Pegged snares are more effective when set on the open runs, not on the burrows.

I've been using Stainless steel wire for ages on rabbits. 3mm, stranded.

I checked with Natural England and they said that it was OK to use.

Yes it can be a sod when new to get it to set right but as always there is a knack to doing it.

Never had one kink and lock.

Better still, it solders ok so copper breakaways and stops are dead easy to attach.

Have you any pictures of your snares camies?
