bri1970 22
when are hares at thier peak mid winter, but saying that,it all depends on how often they're getting run.some places are dogged to death and the hares are flying right from the word go.just my opinion Quote Link to post
inan 841
its a fact this fen hare and fen dog thing is all made up by a bunch of puppy sellers there is nothing special about these dogs or the fens Methinks you are after a wind up Mr Jones. Did you finish those holiday cottages MB? Edited October 6, 2009 by inan Quote Link to post
inan 841
not the above, bring me a top coursing fen dog and i will produce it 4 hares and it wont retreave 1 in november, and mine will retreave 2,all on my permision up here, day after we will go on my permision on the fens do the same and both dogs will catch for sure mine will retreave 3 so that states the fens isnt the hardest and no saluki here just old plain lurcher xs Too true mate... you do realise I was joking with the fen bit right? Fen dogs are plodders but since that's plodder country they do fine.... Give me a quick but something with stamina but most important a f*****g brain type of lurcher anytime.... Why do you assume that all fen dogs are plodders? Quote Link to post
inan 841
[bANNED TEXT] ya dog gets towed around for 3 mins before he settles and start to course it for 2 more mins to catch it thats a proper hare in jan wet ground lol thats a slow dog bruv.a dog should be on the hares arse all the time turning it inside out Why? If the dog catches consistantly, it must be doing something right musn't it? Not all dogs have an up and at em style, some settle behind a jack and don't try for a strike ,till they are sure they will connect. You might prefer a dog that is "all over them ", but that doesn't mean to say other running styles are not productive. Quote Link to post
rabbit tourmentor 29
what youve got to take account is there is a differnce between the fen and my local ground the fen is open some of the hares take a couple of minutes to get going short fields you want a quick dog not really a stayer something which is quick off the mark if you think about differnt things are good at differnt jobs Quote Link to post
inan 841
In the winter. I wonder how long it will be before this turns into a slagging match between daytime runners and lampers ,Joe? Quote Link to post

I know several well known coursing men who ran in competition on the fens pre ban . They went over to Ireland annually, and said the hares were not as strong as those here . Quote Link to post

whin 463
very true nelly and as for fen type dogs not jumping my mates jump mines jump i had a promosing younng fen type dog who jumped for the love of it 3 4 5 6 feet back and forward alAS HE IS NOT HEAR, LOCALY DOG THAt DOESNT JUMP DOESNT CATCH AS MANY its up to the owners at nite jumping mad isnt clever especaily if straying, you want it done in the first feild and away to next , but serously all dogs should jump if working, even tho it can cause problems at times , and as for hares dec and jan best months in certain areas with decent slips no kick ups unless pup , hares are harder after a good spellof frost and the ground softens as they are just that bit more alert some areas i used to course te minutse the car dor opend wham thee gone so you had to walk them and park up good hares , plus it all depends the weather whats in the feilds at certain times of years ive heard dont no if true some guys wont run plough winter wheat only winter stubble and rape dont no if its true Quote Link to post
