very true nelly and as for fen type dogs not jumping my mates jump mines jump i had a promosing younng fen type dog who jumped for the love of it 3 4 5 6 feet back and forward alAS HE IS NOT HEAR, LOCALY DOG THAt DOESNT JUMP DOESNT CATCH AS MANY its up to the owners at nite jumping mad isnt clever especaily if straying, you want it done in the first feild and away to next , but serously all dogs should jump if working, even tho it can cause problems at times , and as for hares dec and jan best months in certain areas with decent slips no kick ups unless pup , hares are harder after a good spellof frost and the ground softens as they are just that bit more alert some areas i used to course te minutse the car dor opend wham thee gone so you had to walk them and park up good hares , plus it all depends the weather whats in the feilds at certain times of years ive heard dont no if true some guys wont run plough winter wheat only winter stubble and rape dont no if its true

Well you obviously know what you are talking about, which is a refreshing change from some of the posts.

Fen dogs cant jump? Posters want to check out Lucky clearing fences and gates running a Jack ,and killing hares on a golf course, something no "plodder" would do.

Whenever this thread comes up ,it starts promisingly ,then a couple of agitators get into the act, including one who has been banned for just that.It then deteriorates into a "the hares around where I live are better than fen hares, fen dogs are slow plodders etc" .Seems most can't have a debate ,without a my p****s bigger than yours syndrome colouring their views.Half of them don't even know where the fens are.

its a fact this fen hare and fen dog thing is all made up by a bunch of puppy sellers there is nothing special about these dogs or the fens

l agree with what u have said seen a few dvds and some off them are during june and july in long grass my terrier would catch would like 2 c 1 off this fen dogs come 2 lreland where there is fences banks gates hedges and we c how there dogs get on after 1

Ive seen several Irish dogs in competitions over here, can't remember them winning anything on the fens.

really l know a few have went 2 england and won lots off comp but the fens are more for longdogs not luchers 3/4 sulks 1/4 greyhoung show them a fence and they dont know what 2 do

I have seen dogs from both Northern Ireland and from the South .never seen one win the Temple Brewer,Forley Cup, Cambridge Cup,Calendar Cup, or Forley Legends.Perhaps you could tell me which " comps" Irish dogs have won?

I know several well known coursing men who ran in competition on the fens pre ban . They went over to Ireland annually, and said the hares were not as strong as those here .

l have a few dvds off irish dogs running over there and a few that have won the forley legends in lreland there is not big open feilds like the fens so 3/4 sulk 1/4 greyhoung dont do the job over here but do well over there diff dogs for diff jobs give me a lucher thats going go though or over any thing till bet what its chasing not standing watching like l have seen myself but the english do have good hare dogs but l take and irish dog with balls and brains any day over a running machine

I asked you what Irish dogs have won competitions in ENGLAND? You said,"I know a few have went to England and won lots of comp ". TWICE I HAVE ASKED YOU TO NAME THEM. SINCE YOU HAVE NOT, CAN WE TAKE IT THAT IT NEVER HAPPENED?

You are right about them coming from English stock,a friend of mine who ran in the Millenium Forley Cup, [he was one of the finalists] ,has sent several dogs over there.

Any dog that runs the fens has to learn get over very wide dykes, and they don't do it by swimming, of course they can jump.

The problem with the Irish dogs is, not that they aren't bred well enough, but that they are not used to the big land and long courses. As you know ,they do allright in their own country.

I just asked" Iceman" to name some of the Irish dogs that have won competitions over here ,and what competitions, his silence is a lot more eloquent than his post was.

Pre ban I only ran in England ,but on all types of going.

I've no problem with Irish dogs or their owners met some very good guys from across the water ,at the Forley .

All I did was ask Iceman to name some of the Irish winners of English competitions he spoke of, his silence has been deafening. Have a good season.
