taylorsdad 0 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Share Posted October 2, 2009 My lurcher broke his leg a while back and is now recovering, but all the dog boys around my way reacon iv wasted my money and time in getting him fixed, the vet said he would make 100% recovery because it was a clean break and because hes only 11months old so what are these lads on about ? iv worked lurchers for the best part of 15 years but have never had a dog break its leg before, just lucky i guess, so are these lads talking sense or shit ? whats your views on this. ATB TD well it happened to my mates dog at 7mth old and people told him the same,,waste a time,,but he spent the money to be repaired, and being honest mate it's one a the best dogs i've seen run in a long time,,so if your dogs showing you good sighns,,give it the chance..end of the day its your option.. ATB TD Hi mate Listen to your vet as he said it,s a clean brake.It,s only a young dog so the bones will sill be a bit soft.This will help to heal quicker.Seen Keano,s Gripper brake it leg.Must be ten or eleven years ago.Dog was about the same age as yours.Made a full recovery.Never slowed the dog down as it could do the biss.Hes still got it.So your mates just may be wrong.atb. taylorsdad 0 Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Share Posted October 2, 2009 chears for yor views lads, im well happy with him he had an operation on it 3 weeks ago monday coming an is already walking with out a limp he just holds it up every now and again when hes standing still, and to answer your question desertdog he didnt have it pinned mate he had a titanium plate put around the bone, the vet said this was the best option cause it would act as a sort of brace in the future and add extra strengh to the bone because hes a working lurcher, but he was pleased and confident of a full recovery and cant see it ever being a problem in the future Quote Link to post
desertdog 149 Posted October 2, 2009 Report Share Posted October 2, 2009 take your time td is the best option and the best advice these lads have given, if youve been around dogs this length of time, see how it goes with the fella, ive had them the best part of 40yrs and been lucky i guess, never had a breakage, had bad injurys, and they all take time to heal, but through the right tlc, they,ve come right, hope he comes good for you, dont listen to dickeads, they, probably never had a dog worth saving.atb desert. taylorsdad 0 Posted October 2, 2009 Author Report Share Posted October 2, 2009 I know what your saying desertdog iv had bad injuries but never a break so dont really know the outcome but like you say time will tell, he want be out mooching again till the tail end of the season when im winding down even tho the vet said hed be alrite to work again as early as christmas time but i dont really want to take the chance so just have to wait and see and fingers crossed it will all come good thanks again people for the advice TD Quote Link to post

swamper 11 Posted October 3, 2009 Report Share Posted October 3, 2009 from this... which was a rod put in.............the 2 joints fused at the elbow......and the tendons replaced with wire..! to this regardless of what we did we couldn't prevent this bend occurring as the growth plates grew at different rates, and the affect is that when she puts to much pressure on the joint it is transferred to the wrong point and the leg gives way. she still can run but as you can see the joint at the foot is stiff as well ,so still more road work to be done to stretch the tendons even further there.....but after 2 1/2 years...were still working on it...............and its not easy....................if it goes well then fine....................if not you better be up to put your self and the dog through some very painful times.......all the best Quote Link to post
