OPEN LICENCE QUESTION.

Recommended Posts

GUYS

Have a FAC with a 17hmr on.

I was granted this licence about two yrs ago.

When i applied for my licence , my FAO advised me to send in landowner permission letters with my licence, so i did.

I had about 5 letters in all , and all the farmers reported having a visit from the FAO.

When i had my licence it stated the land address of only one farm where i had permission to shoot.

When i queried this - the FAO said that the other farms were also suitable and had been certified for 17hmr, but that the FAD would only grant me permission to shoot one farm as it was my first licence, i said ok , fair enough .

Although i havent really had the need to shoot anywhere else - what if i did?

Does my current licence mean that i cant shoot anywhere else ?

I would like to be able to shoot other land so how would i go about to do this ?

eg . could i get the other farms listed on my licence ?, or is there still such a scenario as an 'open licence'?

Any info will be much appreciated.

Thanks

with your liecence as it is you can shoot land deamed fit by the chief constible..this means when you get a new farm to shoot on ,you ring your fao and give him the address he will have a look on his computer and see if the land has already been passed and for what calibre....if it hasnt been passed he will have to go and have a look to see if its suitable for your perticualer calibre..when you have an "open ticket" its all on your toes to decide weather its safe to shoot or not.....taking in consideration public access, foot paths, back stops, house's etc etc..........hope this helps

Has your .17hmr been granted on a 'C' classification?

I dont know , where can i check?

It will be on your FAC, to the left of the HMR conditions, it will say something like "D.THE .17HMR RIFLE / SOUND MODERATOR AND AMMUNITION SHAL BE USED FOR . . . . . .etc. At the start of that note the "D", that means "Open Ticket"

Have a look at yours it probably say "C",.

Let us know ;)

Thanks for the reply's by the way lads!!

Had a look and i cant see any indication of a letter C or D.

I t says

''Additional conditions may be added here by the chief officer of police.

5 . The 17hmr rifle and sound moderator and ammunition to which this certificate relates shall be used for vermin control and zeroing on [name of farm] and on any other land deemed suitable by the chief..... blah blah blah

6. this is not a statutory condition but advice on the law.....blah blah blah''

You have a 'semi open ticket', you can use that rifle legally on any land that has been passed for that calibre providing you have the landowners permission. Apply for a 'full open ticket', whats the worst they can say? ;)

We're talking Condition A XYZ

Condition B ABC

Condition C 123

Spangle has wired crossed.

Regarding permissions to shoot on farms - you may shoot on as many as you like; there is nothing to stop you so if your firearms dept are being morons, politely point out to them that they are being morons - that it is a free (ha!) country and that thus far the law allows you to shoot, but says they have to clear the land.

it does NOT say they can opt not to bother checking the land - they have a duty of care to the public but they also have a duty of service to you.

With your ticket, you have checked with the FEO anyway, ring him again, give him the land in question and tell him you wish to shoot there. If he's happy, job done - your ticket does not reference the land therefore so long as you have verified the land is approved, you are OK to shoot there - there is diddly squat the firearms department can do about it, as you are complying with the terms of the FAC and being a conscientious, law-abiding shooter.

No Spangle doesn't!

I'm in Warks, and a "C" classification means you can shoot on any land passed for that calibre, with the landowners permission of course.

"D" classification means a full open ticket.

For example "D.THE .243 RIFLE/SOUND MODERATOR AND AMMUNITION SHALL BE USED FOR SHOOTING VERMIN/GROUND GAME/DEER/FOX AND FOR ZEROING ON RANGES, OR LAND OVER WHICH THE HOLDER HAS LAWFULAUTHORITY TO SHOOT"

Are you saying you have no letters before the additional conditions on your FAC?

Perhaps it varies with different forces but this is how mine is done, and yes, before you ask I did enquire about the "lettering" !

THANKS FOR THE REPLYS GUYS , I THINK I HAVE IT ALL A BIT CLEARER NOW.

NORTH WALES POLICE ARE MY ISSUING FORCE,

AND I HAVE NO LETTERS AT ALL BEFORE THE CONDITIONS.

I WILL PESTER MY FAO AGAIN TO ENSURE THAT LAND HAS BEEN PASSED - THEN I CAN GO SHOOTING.
