how is this treaty going to effect the hunting in ireland,is there stuff here we should know.voting today dont know what to do.

I suspect that hunting will be down to the regional assemblies. However the enforcement of any such law could be devolved to the european police.

Who will have the right to kick your back door in (literally, metaphorically and euphamistically!) cart you off to whatvever country in europe they like without even needing to possess a warrent!

So next time some ring piece grasses you up for having too many terriers/lurchers or staffs. You could end up wallowing in a Portuguese prison without charge for months!

Scary but true folks

but isnt there badger digging still going on in europe, will this not apply to us then.

Possibly. but like I said this is more than likely to be a regional assembly issue. i.e Scotland Ireland Wales or one of the defragmented areas of England.

Europe could well decide to turn us into an Industrial dumping ground! There won't be any badgers to dig then, let alone deer rabbit et al!

This is very serious! Please vote "NO"

I've voted Yes because Ireland will benefit from a Yes vote.

I find it amusing UKIP and other foreign parties believe they can tell the Irish people how to vote.

We'd enough of that for long enough.

Its your call mate, and no one can or should tell other people how to vote,

but you should do some homework on the EU, we are all being sold a HUGE lie.

Hang on! Did you not vote NO last time?

So your gov't decides to have another vote to ensure you get to say YES.

You have now voted for exactly that!

You have always wanted a free Ireland. Kiss that good bye!

I'm happy enough with the EU at the moment. It's brought a lot of good things to my country. Unfortunately, people who got rich quick on the back of the property bubble have forgotten this. They take a lot of things for granted. I know it's better for my country to have it's feet under the table at the EU than not.

The biggest threat I see today to a successful yes vote is the utter dissatisfaction with our current Government, who are at historic lows in the polls. I'm an opposition voter here, and I voted with the yes side which includes the Government parties, I'm just hoping people won't cut off their noses to spite their faces.

As far as hunting goes, I don't know of anything in Lisbon to threaten it. The bigger problem here regarding hunting is the Green Party currently being in Government with Fianna Fail, the GP have FF over a barrel. both parties know they'll get a hammering in any election, so, the GP are asking - sorry - telling FF they want an end to coursing, they want an end to stag hunting etc. The problems for hunting here are purely domestic.

No Swampy, I voted yes last time as well. When I see something that tells me someone else will be making our decisions for us, then I'll consider a no vote, but that's not happening at the moment.

Probably the most amusing thing I find regarding UKIP is that they're on the same side as Sinn Fein, :clapper:

As for a free Ireland, I live in the Republic, which is free  We've been talking, arguing, and shouting about this treaty here for plenty long. No one's made an argument to change my mind on the issue :)

John, it's all very well being dissatisfied with your current government, but at least now you as a country can do something about it at election time. If this goes through you'll have a new president that you won't be able to shift should something not sit right with Ireland.

The thing is Malt, this vote is not about the Government. It's about an EU treaty, which is important to Ireland. That's the crucial issue, Irish people voting on whether something is good or bad for Ireland and not about anyone or anything else :)

Blair is just one aspect, everything has to be weight, most importantly probably is Ireland's standing with it's friends and allies within the EU, as a small country, good standing with other members is extremely important in any strategy adapted by Ireland in any EU matter.

There will be a national election soon enough anyway, they can't open their mouths lately for putting about 10 pairs of feet in.
