You don't need a licence to own or use a saw for your own use (firewood etc)

you only need one if you are useing it proffessionally , so tell em to feck off .

I presume you know you can also just buy any size bar you want on it's own ?

I have 3 different sized ones i use for different jobs on my Husky 254.

Bollox

You only need an NPTC chainsaw competence certificate ( or similar) if you intend doing work for others (paid work), or not on your own property. The same applies for use of pesticides and certification ; so go back to the shop and tell him to stick his head up his arse and bark at his b@lls, he's taking the piss. Thats how it was when I did my basic and climbing certs, unless things have dramatically changed.

You need a chain saw license to buy any top handle chain saw. A stihl MS200T is a top handle saw meant just for tree sergons, they use with just one hand when up trees. You can buy a normal chain saw, with a 14" bar without a license.

this man is right jest get a nomel saw mate i got 026 with 16in but its easy to put 14in bar on hope this helps.
