ellir0305 9
after the tragic loss of my pet cat to one of my peg snares (set 1.5 miles away)which it managed to completely uproot and bring home before getting tangled by the cord and die, i am looking at making all of my snares brakeaways. so my question is, as above, where is cheapest place to get breakaway eyelets? i am also going to change the cord and peg arangement to the fishing swivel and u shaped wire peg that glenn used in an article on here. another question i have is; when using hazel tealers intead of wire, how do you attach the cord to the snare? thanks rob Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
Sorry to hear about your cat Rob. The most important feature of your snare would have been a deer stop, which would have prevented the noose from closing fully. I personally would not recommend changing the design of the snare though. When using breakaways you should use a solid peg which has no movement at all, giving the breakaway link the best chance of opening. The new breakaway link design that Glenn has come up with is available from me, let me know how many you want and I will send you some to try. Remember, the deer stop is as important as the breakaway link. If you use the spring wire staple that Glenn came up with you will find that there is too much give in the wire to activate the breakaway link properly, also not recommended for use on fence wires. PM me with your details and I will get the links out to you asap. H Quote Link to post

It traveled all that way with a complete snare(peg tealer and wire) round it's neck and only got tangled up at home 1.5 miles away Quote Link to post

Your having a laugh aren't you mate? Have you ever tried to hold a cat that doesn't want to be? They're far stronger and fiestier than a poxy rabbit. Quote Link to post
