Hello all, currently got myself a HW77K which is putting out 11.7 ft/lb. Really enjoy it but want to get myself a PCP.

I reckon I could scrap together about £800 for the gun and then buy the peripherals extra (air bottle etc). I've been reading reviews and I know it pretty much depends on personal preference when you pick up the gun and shoot. The guns I've been looking at are HW100, S410/510 and FX Cyclone (BTAS). I think my preference would be in .22 flavour, probably as that's my current.

The problem I'm finding is all the guns I'm looking at have excellent reviews, is it best to narrow down to a couple of guns too try in a shop? If so what would the experienced guys and gals here recommend. It has to be under the legal 12 ft/lb limit as I have no FAC, also looking at some of the Daystate guns but these are just out of budget....

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

You really need to pick a few up, shoulder them, try them for comfort and fit. So many guns will perform to a similar level but you'll shoot much better with a gun that feels right.

I have an FX and I love it, think its the best gun in the world, others may not like it but it suits me and I shoot well with it. Thats all that matters to me.

Calibre is the same. A matter of preference. I was a dedicated follower of .22 until I spent some time with .177. Now I dont think I could go back to the bigger calibre.

Its a little confusing to hear of .177 being more accurate. It isnt!!! Its more forgiving of rangefinding errors. If you clamp both calibres they will still give great results its just that with a more pronounced trajectory .22 is a little more dramatic when showing point of impact at different ranges. If you're happy that you can rangefind and estimate holdover/holdunder accurately your shooting will be just as consistant.

Sorry if that sounds a vague answer, but the best gun really is the one you like the most.

I also was a follower of the 22 caliber , i have a cometa 300 for bout the last 10 or so years but now i have my airarms s410 carbine in 177 , i,ll never look back, i still use my old gun , but much prefer the 177 . Airarms s410 is absolutely amazing, accuracy is phenomenal , i shot a rabbit tonight at 65 yards no hassle and that was just sitting down , no bi-pod or anything, hope this helps thanks.

Thanks for all you help, once I've taken a good look at a few guns I'll be in a better place to decide what to go for!

I imagine most of the decision is how it shoulders!

Can't wait to get a new one though. :gunsmilie:
