Problem with scope and focus

Using a S400 and im loving it, super accurate

BUT i have a hawke 3-9 x 44 mildot scope and i cant seem to get on with it

I started using a pigs ear which is great for eye relief but im still having trouble with focus, either the cross hairs or the sight picture are out of focus, The one thing i have tried yet is wearing my glasses instead of contacts but this will change my eye relief,

anyone know what the parallax of the hawke is and if this could be the issue and also sorry if this is a stupid question

one of the first things is to get the correct eye relief whilst placing your scope onto the mounts.

Secure the base of the mounts and tighten the screws, then place your scope onto the mounts and loosley tighten the screws so the scope is just moveable.

Mount the rifle (empty)as though you were to take a shot, check eye relief, move scope to correct.

Before actually tightening fully i would dry mount with eyes closed then see if you have the correct eye relief.just to double check.

look through the scope at the sky. (NOT INTO THE SUN) and check you have focused the rear eye piece by getting nice sharp cross hairs.

Then after all that its down to the parallax.

Forgot about the glasses......

If you wear them more often than not then you should keep wearing them.

Took some chap out lamping some time ago .He was on the lamp, could'nt see the rabbits, got back to the pub for the last one when he said he forgot his glasses coulnt see without them.

Thanks dougy,

spent some time in the garden getting eye relief then working with the rear focus, Cross hairs are fine when looking into the distance, I think i have to train my eyes to focus on the reticle, It drifts in and out of focus, but i'm sure that my gear is now set up correctly

Thanks again

i used a hawk scope on a .17hmr when i first got it and found a similar problem, i couldnt quite get the positioning right and ended up selling it to a mate who liked it. possibly not suited for everyone, i even bought offset mounts for mine to bring the scope further back along the rail, made no difference.

Can't help you with specific details about the scope but your mention of wearing glasses /or not wearing glasses prompted me to add my bit . I started getting quite dispondent at one point when testing the zero of my .22 Brno. Nothing seemed consistent .Close but not quite right . It was distortion of the cross-hairs caused by the small lenses of my new glasses . As soon as i raked -out the old specs I shot superbly again . :whistling: Ok I shot a bit better
