ferretess 230
hey bill glad the family are ok and hope your dog is fine to , as for the other dog if the owner just lets it run about whats the chances of them caring about what it gets up to but like you say it could of been your lassies arm or leg,
littlefish 586
That is shocking but so common place now. The police may not want to know if only dogs were injured, but produce a coat/sweater with some tear marks in it and they may take notice! Before any halfwit starts calling you a 'grass', look upon it as taking responsibilty when the stain who owns the dangerous dog hasn't the brains to.
bill88 6
Thanks for all the replies,i'm going to sleep on it and see what the damage is at the vets tomorrow.I know when i catch up with the owner they will say "its never done that before, its great with people and kids" but my wife and daughter are lucky it didn't grab one of them when they tried to seperate them, and i'm going to be lumbered with a vet bill when i get in from work tomorrow, and all they did was walk the dogs at the same time and in the same place they have for years. Strong Stuff 2,171
Bill, you got to do what makes you feel right, you got a responsibility to your dogs and your family, if you're not comfortable going to the owners door then let the plod do it, you do pay their wages after all! One thing though, the Stafford attacked your dogs, that does not mean it is in any way likely to attack your children, but am sure you know that. A
Giro 2,648
I am with Strong stuff.... Tho i think its dog politics, also your dog was also off the lead???? And the staff went for your dog not the child??? Go with your gut feeling!! The THL Tinter forum was not there so you know far more,if you feel the dog was out of control and dangerous do what you feel right.. My Russel messed a pet dog up big style tho he did not start the trouble tho was hell bend on finishing it.. I don't mean to hold the cats arse to the fire and truly mean this i hope your daughter was not hurt physically or emotionally.. All the best fella this was just food for thought not ment to antagonize you in any way... Kids first all the way for me.. Edited September 29, 2009 by Giro
donk 12
Happened to me once, its never happened again. Any dog comes near mine and gets aggressive and it gets booted. So far ive done a labrador, standard poodle, another lurcher,2 staffy types, collie and a bitza terrier. Of the owners that were there? Well some were apologetic, some annoyed and one was going to "f@ckin do me" but he didn't, i ran away cos he was massive
Malt 379
....one was going to "f@ckin do me" but he didn't, i ran away cos he was massive That's the way Donk, better a healthy coward than a bruised brave person! :black eye:
gnasher16 30,121
Im not becoming a member of the " i love strongstuff " club .....but he,s absolutely right..... Just because a dog gives it to another dog is absolutely no reason to say the dog will attack a human being, especially the bull terrier breeds....in fact moreso, its a breed characteristic that many will be dodgy around dogs but 100 % with people...... Bill i think you need have a sharp word with the owner of the dog and a nice gentle explannation of the unfortunate nature of some dog breeds/owners with your daughter......... Obviously immediately after the event your feeling annoyed/protective and generally pissed off......hence i reckon your doing the right thing by thinking it over a while....you seem a sound enough chap im sure you,ll do right by both your family and dog............and in fairness, the other dog. All the best.
SportingShooter 0
Do what you think is right Bill, you're family comes first always
Swampy 147
So let me get this straight.............. Staff comes running over, your terrier gets defensive, fight ensues, dogs pulled apart and terrier gets bitten. 1 Thankfully no person is hurt! 2. Dogs fight it in their psyche 3. Dogs don't have access to lawyers so the blame issue is on both of them. 3. Your dog wasn't on a lead? 4. If you know your dog gets defensive in the presence of other dogs you will have to accept the fact that its going to get into fights. At the time of the fight neither owner was in control. If the Staff had grabbed your daughter arm then you could argue that it didn't do it deliberately. Its a tough call mate but I really think that you should put this down to experience and try not to take the moral high ground on this one. really glad your family's safe. gnasher16 30,121
ps Only based on information provided. Think its worth remembering this staff which was clearly a dog aggressive dog anyway, was being exercised with no collar or lead and was in the care of young children...... Bills dog although off a lead ( nothing wrong with that ) was in the care of an adult...... bills/families fault ? no bills dogs fault ? no the other dogs fault ? no the other kids fault ? no the other dogs owner who allowed an aggressive dog to be exercised off a lead by young children in what seems a fairly public place fault?........dont think theres much argument .......cracking heads wont solve anything just try and learn from it and move on..... ......... mushroom 13,002
Problem is these tits who allow their staffs to do this sort of thing are only gonna get staffs the way of pits.... BANNED. Lesson learned this time but as has already been said it only takes an accident whilst a fights going on to cause a child or an adult plenty of skin graffs. I aint no grass but report it mate if only for fear someone will get hurt in the future. ATB Kie
Chid 6,540
hope the wife and kid are ok bill...... and the wee terrier to to all the other members ........ where in bills post does it say his dog was off the lead???? your all jumping on the band wagon again .... bills dog may still have been one the lead and been protective... bill do what you think is right Edited September 30, 2009 by chid21
lurcher-lass 1
Well i can say least your wife and daughter werent the one who the dog got hold of , but at the same time your terrier was the unlucky one. If it was me i wouldnt contac the police THIS time, but maybe if your out again and you see the owner with the dog then confront him. And if if need be give him a few slaps
Swampy 147
"to all the other members ........ where in bills post does it say his dog was off the lead???? your all jumping on the band wagon again ...." Its been mentioned three times. Twice with question marks after them. Some "Bandwagon" that is! Swampy A ning for a pedant
