The police may not want to know if only dogs were injured, but produce a coat/sweater with some tear marks in it and they may take notice! bill88 6 Posted September 29, 2009 Author Report Share Posted September 29, 2009 Thanks for all the replies,i'm going to sleep on it and see what the damage is at the vets tomorrow.I know when i catch up with the owner they will say "its never done that before,its great with people and kids" but my wife and daughter are lucky it didn't grab one of them when they tried to seperate them,and i'm going to be lumbered with a vet bill when i get in from work tomorrow,and all they did was walk the dogs at the same time and in the same place they have for years. And the staff went for your dog not the child??? Go with your gut feeling!! The THL Tinter forum was not there so you know far more,if you feel the dog was out of control and dangerous do what you feel right.. My Russel messed a pet dog up big style tho he did not start the trouble tho was hell bend on finishing it.. I don't mean to hold the cats arse to the fire and truly mean this i hope your daughter was not hurt physically or emotionally.. So far ive done a labrador,standard poodle, another lurcher,2 staffy types, collie and a bitza terrier. Of the owners that were there? Just because a dog gives it to another dog is absolutely no reason to say the dog will attack a human being,especially the bull terrier breeds....in fact moreso,its a breed characteristic that many will be dodgy around dogs but 100 % with people...... Bill i think you need have a sharp word with the owner of the dog and a nice gentle explannation of the unfortunate nature of some dog breeds/owners with your daughter......... Obviously immediately after the event your feeling annoyed/protective and generally pissed off......hence i reckon your doing the right thing by thinking it over a while....you seem a sound enough chap im sure you,ll do right by both your family and dog............and in fairness,the other dog. Staff comes running over, your terrier gets defensive, fight ensues, dogs pulled apart and terrier gets bitten. 1 Thankfully no person is hurt! 2. Dogs fight it in their psyche 3. Dogs don't have access to lawyers so the blame issue is on both of them. 3. Your dog wasn't on a lead? 4. If you know your dog gets defensive in the presence of other dogs you will have to accept the fact that its going to get into fights. At the time of the fight neither owner was in control. If the Staff had grabbed your daughter arm then you could argue that it didn't do it deliberately. Its a tough call mate but I really think that you should put this down to experience and try not to take the moral high ground on this one. really glad your family's safe. Think its worth remembering this staff which was clearly a dog aggressive dog anyway,was being exercised with no collar or lead and was in the care of young children...... Bills dog although off a lead ( nothing wrong with that ) was in the care of an adult...... bills/families fault ? no bills dogs fault ? no the other dogs fault ? no the other kids fault ? no the other dogs owner who allowed an aggressive dog to be exercised off a lead by young children in what seems a fairly public place fault?........dont think theres much argument .......cracking heads wont solve anything just try and learn from it and move on..... ......... BANNED. Lesson learned this time but as has already been said it only takes an accident whilst a fights going on to cause a child or an adult plenty of skin graffs. If it was me i wouldnt contac the police THIS time, but maybe if your out again and you see the owner with the dog then confront him.
